Gov. Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma, a Republican and the chairman of the National Governors Association, on Thursday criticized the deployment of Texas National Guard troops to Illinois as a violation of his beliefs in federalism and “states’ rights.”

His comments, in an interview with The New York Times, marked the first time a Republican governor has questioned the interstate deployment of National Guard troops over a governor’s objections. Gov. JB Pritzker of Illinois and other Democratic elected officials have been strongly critical of the move and have implored Republican governors to join the opposition.

Mr. Stitt on Thursday said, “We believe in the federalist system — that’s states’ rights,” adding, “Oklahomans would lose their mind if Pritzker in Illinois sent troops down to Oklahoma during the Biden administration.”

This is a critical crack point. MTG isn’t fully bulletproof from attack, but no MAGA voter is going to accuse her of being woke.

What this is doing is dropping this convo into the social media feeds of more conservative voters. Which means local news with a conservative bent also reports on it.

Leo questioned a world where the wealth of the elite grows
"exponentially" while many "millions of people die of hunger or survive in conditions unfit for human beings." He also criticized "ideologies that defend the absolute autonomy of the marketplace and financial speculation,"
with false promises "that a free-market economy will automatically solve the problem of poverty."

Leo described a "new tyranny," which shuns any kind of oversight and where the economy is structured "in such a way that sacrifices are demanded of the masses in order to serve the needs of the powerful." The poor, he wrote, are only allowed "drops that trickle down."

The pope openly challenged "prosperity theology" and called Christians to the practice of giving charity. "It will not solve the problem of world poverty, yet it must still be carried out, with intelligence, diligence and social responsibility," he wrote.

Popular movements that challenge "the empire of money," invite people to take on the cause to combat poverty alongside the poor, instead of on their behalf, and "make history," the pope said. It our duty, Leo said, to "make their voices heard, albeit in different ways, in order to point out and denounce such structural issues, even at the cost of appearing foolish or naïve."

No lie, I worry about this. I’m not in an impacted city. But since ICE seems to throw this stuff around with zero thought, I’m concerned about what happens if Mom and I are at Lowe’s and ICE decides to do a raid. She’s got wicked asthma, and pretty sure tear gas is not good for that

Even today I’ve seen folks here on Bsky use it as a swing against Jewish members.

So as a Christian, I get it. 💯

But we don’t get to tell any minority group that they’re overreacting to a word that’s been used to slander their community for ages.

Have been used as part of the basis of a range of antisemetic acts over the millennia. Particularly the admonition against the Pharisees shifts from this one subgroup to all Jews.

We can say “that’s not right”. Doesn’t matter. Because it’s been used again and again AGAINST Jews. 2/

Yup. Portland PD is NOT a fan of a lot of the local laws and policies in Portland.

They’re not doing more than the minimum to assist ICE. These are not woke officers by any definition.

leave officers at risk. In an environment where officer safety is stressed in daily briefings, ICE introduces an alarming level of unpredictability.

Local PDs aren’t bulwarks of resistance. ICE is just this bad at doing their job.

Local cops don’t like people who make their job worse. 2/e
