If you're a James Herriot fan, you know the chapter where he talks about filling out the TB paperwork and screwing it up every time and driving the admin folks nuts? Yeah, that's me. I'm sorry! I'm sorry!

Dealing with some first-world problems today.

My biggest concern is that we do not have a workable legal accountability structure for foreseeable injuries incurred through its use. In fact, our current models of causality, injury, and transparency make some of these injuries difficult even to perceive.

Sorry I cannot find the original post that led me to this essay, but if you haven't read it yet, it really provides a lot to consider about why so many US folks feel like they are struggling economically and how supports for low-income people leave major gaps.

It is! But these kinds of uses are not getting as much attention. I also wish we'd do a better job of recognizing the scientists who are designing the models instead of just saying the companies' names. e360.yale.edu/features/art...
A.I. Is Quietly Powering a Revolution in Weather Prediction
Weather forecasts powered by artificial intelligence are usually more accurate — and require less computational energy and fewer human hours — than conventional predictions. But questions remain about...

A bipartisan bill that would eliminate fees for state IDs and birth certificates for Ohioans experiencing homelessness is headed to the House floor. https://nbc4i.co/4okxNSL?utm_medium=social&utm_source=bluesky_

Anyway, I presume they'll leave the attack on the Girl Scouts to RFK, Jr., who will tell people not to buy Girl Scout cookies. I'm kind of surprised that didn't happen last year.

See, that's the hilarious bit to me. The Girl Scouts have been to the left of the Boy Scouts for a while. Going after the Boy Scouts is genuinely dumb.

This was all I could think of.

That to me was one of the most brilliant things about Get Out. (The TSA guy.)

Ghostbusters, but the EPA guy is the hero.
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

Fantastic news!!!

See, some enterprising grad student needs to get out into the field and find out how many husbands just blindly are voting the way their wives tell them to because researching confusing ballot initiatives and nonpartisan judicial candidates has become women's shitwork.

Has the mitzvah been fulfilled if you provide tofurky or vegan Wellington to your vegan son whom you love as long as the turkey is on the holiday table and displayed as the poultry of our affliction? The sages agree that it is, even if only a turkey breast is displayed.

What are the mitzves of Thanks Giving, a festive meal, to eat the turkey bird, to hear the story of thepilgrim, to watch the football game. And some say to argue with an uncle.

As Judge Boasberg considers how to move forward with contempt proceedings re: Alien Enemies Act flights, plaintiffs provide list of names for potential witness testimony.

The list includes former DOJ official Emil Bove, who is now a federal judge on the 3rd Cir.

If you're going to pick one single way to honor the legacy of Ronald Reagan, this is not a good choice.

When thinking about juristocracy in the US, I'm feeling like we need to attend more to the peak court's increasingly powerful stance in relation to the lower federal courts. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Judiciary officials had asked lawmakers for an additional $142 million for security for lower federal courts, a 19 percent increase.

I guess my issue with the pajamas thing is that if they drop the rule requiring airlines to compensate people for lengthy delays and continue other deregulatory efforts, more people will be needing their pajamas in the airport.
Sean Duffy: "Dressing with respect -- whether it's a pair of jeans and a decent shirt, I would encourage people to maybe dress a little better which encourages us to maybe behave a little better. Let's try not to wear slippers and pajamas as we come to the airport."

I have a friend who's working on how it might be used to examine hours of police body cam footage. It could make a big, positive difference there too.

Very cool!

See, if only that person had access to generative AI.

Let's make it fair. I propose comprehensive hormone, genital, and puberty stage testing for football. Every high school needs a Tanner Stage 3, 4, and 5 football team, and any coach or parent can demand inspection of any athlete suspected of cheating.

Well, this year, for G-d's sake nothing fried.
