idk what this snookie thing or whatever is but my contribution to the discourse is that i think ppl should be nice to devs who are trying to expand the atproto project but if its really that much of a mess maybe someone should come on as an assistant of sorts

i think the @react.dev Compiler team could include more of this type of messaging. i'm being a bit inflammatory here (and Haskell may not the best analogy), but the principle of "pure things are safe to move around" is fundamentally simple and has been known for decades. teach it to new generation!
You may not like it, but React is basically Haskell. The React Compiler works for the same exact reason that compilers for pure programming languages are able to make non-trivial optimizations. If your code is composed of pure functions, it is safe to re-order their computation, or save the result for some inputs and reuse it for later for same inputs. This is not some kind of a “workaround” or a hack — it’s one of the most exciting consequences of the functional programming paradigm which has been known and used for decades. Purity and idempotency make it safe to move stuff around without changing the final outcome. Following the "rules of React" is just ensuring your code is safe to move around like this.

Correct! This week we built a fallback mechanism to query slingshot, constellation, and the PDS directly.

For now it is limited "read only". Soon enough you'll be able to interact with Link on blacksky.community

i often think about this quote from hikaru nakamura re: alphazero beating stockfish.
Hikaru Nakamura: "I think the research is certainly very interesting; the concept of trying to learn from the start without any prior knowledge so certainly it's a new approach and it worked quite well obviously with go. It's definitely interesting. That being said, having looked at the games and understand[ing] what the playing strength was I don't necessarily put a lot of credibility in the results simply because my understanding is that AlphaZero is basically using the Google super computer and Stockfish doesn't run on that hardware; Stockfish was basically running on what would be my laptop. If you wanna have a match that's comparable you have to have Stockfish running on a super computer as well."
