Love the obvious pro-cat bias among the people who decide which emojis there are. 😺😸😹😻😼😽🙀😿😾 No other animal gets this range.

All that's missing are the damson preserves and dandelion wine!

@catsofyore.bsky.social While browsing through scanned archives of the magazine Chess Review, which was published from 1933 to 1969, I found a cat! People who have watched Netflix's The Queen's Gambit will recognize that Chess Review was the magazine shoplifted by Beth Harmon.
On the October 1957 cover of Chess Review, a black cat is seemingly playing chess. It is looking intently at the white king on the board. The cover is captioned, "A CT CAN NIP AT A KING." The photo is a black and white photo.

The trick to getting over stage fright, for me, is to have something you wanna say so badly that it would be worse to not do it.

(I never used to shed this much. Help.)

Maintaining the #FakeBlonde lifestyle and an 85% black wardrobe well into your 40s is like being a goth who owns a white cat.

I’m l not gonna lie, these questions suck but you should let them know how and why. We all need to tell them that this is mostly a grift. It is obvious by the way the questions are framed that they don’t know.

Let's hope it does. I do also enjoy the idea of VCs spending every last dollar on it, so they won't have any dollars left to spend when the next totally asinine thing comes along. I'll just be happy to witness either form of collapse, so long as it collapses.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

While I don't want to wait through another year and a half of this nonsense, I remain hopeful.

Came here (4 days later) to say this.

Once it's available I don't wait for invitations anymore (I think they straight-up stopped sending them to me?) - I just duck into a small independent pharmacy and get 'er done.

Like, I'm not spreading anything ever, but there's still lots of full nudity. Maybe my perception is skewed because I've always felt like "it's just a body, so what? Everyone has one. Bodies are plentiful and low in value." I only designate it 18+ because rules. (I get it tho.)

That's what I also assume. I still get $5 out if it but I guess they then get to screenshot/download whatever they find/want, which isn't great. 😕

And yes, as you may have guessed, they're always profiles with default avatars, zero activity or other information, no other supported creators, and always seem to have joined the same month they pull this shit.

What's with these people who subscribe to a Patreon and then immediately cancel? Do they just want to pay for one month of access and then make sure it doesn't renew? Or is something more sinister going on?

Heron and a star that might actually be Saturn?
A great blue heron sits hunched on a piling in the river, a very bright point of light in the moonlit night sky above it.

I don't think I'm ever gonna be able to break up with technology - not entirely - but I can bend my use of it in a more sensually fulfilling direction (ie. follow more artists, create and share more art, myself); when I notice it disconnecting me from my own body and senses, it's time to log off.

Yes, I'm here online, microdosing dopamine between being served bad news (by the media and outraged friends) and being told I'm old and ugly (by advertisers). But what if I sought and created more beauty and connection here through careful curation? Or sought it offline more often than I already do?

As @neomeruru.bsky.social said: "something I've been incorporating into my self-care and my relationship with technology is the concept of pleasure-seeking." I'm still thinking about that, and this essay, days later. It makes so much sense, explains so much, and (most importantly) offers a solution.

"It is clear that they see the body as a gross, inefficient object that connects them to people they deem lower than them.. that the world they seek to create for everyone is as removed from the corporeal and sensual as possible."

I have never seen Rocky Horror in any of its forms, nor have I ever felt compelled to.

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

We as a species would do well to think about them considerably more than we do.
