Its body is a dark golden-green at the front, fading into almost blue towards the end. However, the very tip of the tail is regenerating and is therefore almost yellow.
Each segment has a pair of dorsal cirri which (as is typical for its family, Phyllodocidae) form leaf-like paddles. On this individual they are rather slender, yellow towards the base, and dark green towards their tips. This creates the illusion of two yellow stripes going down the worm's body.

The head bears two reddish eyes and five pale antennae, and the first few segments have four pairs of green tentacular cirri.
I always thought they together with the paddles give the Phyllodocidae a dragonish appearance.

I’m shooting a few mollusc photos for the profs at my university. This one (Calliostoma zizyphinum) is my favourite so far! :D

It’s a nice change not having to mind all the bristles and paddles of the polychaetes I usually deal with!

No marine organism today, but a photo I’m very proud of nonetheless.
It even got awarded “best photo” at the Botanical Garden Bioblitz earlier this year. :D

It’s a portrait of Bembecia ichneumoniformes, a wasp mimicking butterfly.

The image shows the head and part of the thorax. It is covered in bright yellow and dark brown scales. In the middle you can see one large complex eye and a smaller, singular eye above. The antennae are brownish. Only the lower half is on the photo.

Polychaetes are beautiful creatures and the Phyllodocid polychaetes especially have made me really fall love these animals ^^

I've not been very active recently, but I'm back for this #WormWednesday with a polychaete from my favourite Genus: Phyllodoce. :D

Here's the #InverteFest art book August 2025 cover posted in full - how many species can you identify in this piece? I'll post the answer later when I have the time to annotate the image.

So I thought I'd share another cool animal: Hersiliodes latericius, a very orange copepod! :)

The copepod is translucent yellowish with bright orange streaks. (It looks like some inner organ is orange, but I don't really know.)

It carries two large egg-sacs, which are also bright orange. The antennae are rather short.

Look at all the unlawful shit Trump et al. have already done. Experts on totalitarianism and dictatorships are leaving the US. I urge you, do something *before* the US becomes one! Right now is still the best chance with Harvard and loads of other independent institutions on your side.

It's frustrating to see people so confident that the law will stop this new attack of Trump against Harvard.
US-government doesn't care about the law and after the international students get their heads shaven and sent in shackles to wherever, no amount of being in the right can fix the situation.

In the meantime one could develop a grocery store map-app for every store. Like Wikipedia, it would be user-curated and the chewy-decimal system would be its backbone. Once you tap on the item you want, the shelf on the map gets highlighted. You could also plan your shopping with an optimal route.

I haven't posted an animal in ages, but don't think I've run out! There's plenty more to come. This very fashionable blue and red amphipod for example!

I sadly don't know anything about it apart from that it is an amphipod.

Bureaucracy is the final boss.
I just want to be able to live and do useful stuff without filling out multiple 20-page documents that all require a bunch of different numbers (assigned to me at birth) that I do not know.

Personally I use "Greenwich Meal Time". As I'm from Germany, Greenwich Meal Time means I can have food an hour earlier than would otherwise be deemed acceptable.
