Masterpiece of a film.

Wrote about one of the year's most disturbing films, which stares at an oncoming tragedy like a deer in the headlights. The Netflix doc succinctly captures America's racism, love of guns, and failure of police. Me on The Perfect Neighbor: www.avclub.com/the-perfect-...
The Perfect Neighbor stares helplessly at a perfectly ordinary American murder
The Perfect Neighbor uses bodycam footage to capture the inevitable, racist, deeply American murder at its heart.

"It’s a film about AI with its foundational elements feeling generative rather than genuine, it’s various elements pieced together from what came before and rearranged just enough to make one feel that they’ve been given something new-ish."

Something Has Been Corrupted in the Copied Code of Tron: Ares
Tron: Ares feels inescapably like something pieced together from its previous installments, with just enough additions to be technically new.

The end result was...middling

Breaking badly Spotify's new AI playlist creator. Having this kind of search with low stakes (hallucinate away on song selection) does seem a less evil application for the tech, but it's amusing it still doesn't actually work (yet).

This legend has done the math for screens around the world - the biggest in Canada, which doesn't even have laser GT, is still dwarfed by the likes of Melbourne. Given Canada is home to #Imax one can only dream we could have a monster near here.

Stumbled across this... We have some mighty screens (including my beloved yet shuttered Cinesphere) yet lag behind other wonderous locations

What the fuck do you mean I got a longer prison sentence than Diddy

NEW YORK (AP) — Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison in case involving sex workers, violence and ‘freak-offs’.

This pleases me so - I was (humbly) suggesting to Cillian at a TIFF party that he grab the @criterion.bsky.social Anderson set when he did his closet a few days after the fest, and so chuffed to see that he did so!

*Simchas.

And the idea of getting shot by a cop through a door you're trying to keep closed to keep an attacker out is quite a thing to process.

I want to echo the immortal TOP SECRET and say "but Sinchaa Torah would likely be fair game", but this is another thing the monsters behind Oct 7 took away from my people.

Which is not, to head any replies off, a suggestion that lethal force *shouldn't* be used to protect lives when there is no other option. The cops obviously shouldn't have let him blow up a synagogue on Yom Kippur.

Was always a weird vibe as a kid that everytime I went to shul there had to be an armed cop there as we walked in. Seemed paranoid, like the events of elsewhere couldn't possibly happen here, and that abundance of caution simply meant normalization of guns at a place of worship.

Yet here we are.

Silly Rabbi, hits ain't for Cubs.
audacityofdespair.bsky.social
Last night, my rabbi paused thoughtfully before delivering his Kol Nidre sermon to gently inquire of his entire flock: "Does anyone know if the Cubs pulled it out in the ninth inning?"
Upon being informed they had not, he proceeded to speak on the theme of atonement and apology.

Love my rabbi.

I do fear the emergence of Everlast, but not as much as the very real concern I'll be dead before we get to song 500.

Note that isn't even a bad thing, as I'd like your episodes to go to 4+ hours right through to mid-80s, and you release song 500 in your 80s.

RIP to that tramp Jane Goodall.
