What was the big difference between those two time frames? 🧐
“The CDC said in its 2024 report—which compared data from two time periods, 2011-2013 and 2020-2022—that stroke prevalence had risen nationally by almost 8%. But among people aged 18 to 44, the prevalence of stroke increased by almost 15%”
Donald Glover’s Stroke Highlights a Troubling Trend for Young People
The 42-year-old musician and actor said he suffered a stroke while on tour in 2024.

Please try to tell your faves you enjoy their work. A lot of people are bold enough to be openly negative or mean while positive people react quietly. Lurking is ofc okay but I think it’s good to try and be openly encouraging from time to time🥹❤️
Remember your favorite creator possibly might be struggling with imposter syndrome and doubt and this timeline sucks.. so if you find yourself thinking “wow I really relate to this persons work” or that persons work gives you joy, you should probably tell them. It’s a hard time to be a creative.

To be clear Lizza’s story is that Nuzzi sat on important matters of national significance for personal benefit and he’s sat on these details until he could personally benefit.

All of DC media needs to be thrown into the sea. Anyone who defends these people is a goddamn clown.

Yeah mate they're saying the album released to commemorate ten years of Girls Aloud is thirteen years old today. Yeah they're saying time marches on relentlessly. Yeah apparently it doesn't care about your feelings about that. Yes mate I know

Famously of course, there were no successful musicians from low-income backgrounds until very recently.
All AI music does is devalue the work done by human artists. It’s not accessibility, it’s exploitation. We need real protections for artists against AI!

BTW — even if you had access to this AI startup as a child, you still wouldn’t know how to make music.

The memory of the guy at this one restaurant on campus in my first year of uni (who I'd later become friends but that's by-the-by) asking, "Don't you get bored eating the same thing every night?" has lived rent free in my head for 22 years now.

Society is a construct. You can just ask someone to do a ska cover of Faith of the Heart and they'll say "$300 please" and you give it to them and then you have it.

Everyone, give

There are sort of unspoken rules of social media that I think map pretty well onto the coffee shop analogy. I don't remember consciously deciding this, but it *feels* right to me: reply directly to mutuals (and explicit questions you can usefully answer), quote to give your own take.
People really need to get their heads around the difference between saying something in public and saying something for public comment

I'd say "you know better than to do this at coffee shops" but the number of live updates of strangers' conversations we've seen over the years
"Don't post if you don't want random strangers to reply" remains one of the most most hilariously illogical things I have seen people say on social media.

Allow me to list several other examples of "Do not allow me to perceive a thing if I cannot personally interact with it" logic at play:

THE MAN IN THE RIVER

Once there was a wise man, who travelled to strange lands, and as he travelled, he came to the bank of a winding river. Edging the bank were houses, set at distances from one another. The wise man walked upstream, watching the slow current carry leaves and twigs past him.

This could be the moment that gets rid of changing the clocks. Politicians finally have an incentive to get off their arses and actually do it.
TBF, exactly one hour early 1230 GMT +1. Wonder if someone scheduled the publication before the clocks went back then no-one checked

the bbc changed their article from saying 'trans woman' to saying 'biological male who identifies as a woman'.

even if you don't care about trans ppl it should alarm you just how captured the bbc has become.

they will no longer even say 'trans woman'. that's not normal and shows massive bias.

What's confusing about this is that surely "British fish and chips" is a trope understood by Americans? "Fish and chip shop" is hardly some kind of mysterious localism. It reads like they got the original copy as "chip shop" and edited it without actually thinking what the term meant.
Every single person in Britain: "the chippy" or, if we're being fancy, "the chip shop"

The New York Times: "the french fry restaurant"
new favourite New York Times term for a British thing just dropped

Reform's polling numbers are spooking some people. It was all fun and games when he was just a means of pushing the Overton Window to the right, but him having actual power is too much. Watch the forces that once championed him suddenly start Noticing Things.
Evidence of Farage’s unabashed youthful racism has been in the public domain since at least 2013, yet somehow he has been allowed to remain part of the British political conversation. The fact he wasn’t driven back under a rock years ago has emboldened racists across the country to spread hatred.
