This is an unspooling thread of total joy. A slug of forgotten comedy history.

The brilliant female clowns of silent cinema. This might be the most ALIVE thing you’ll see all day.
Since we are once again dealing with "the only silent era comedians of note were men" I feel I need to stand up for the ladies.

I hate that AI has made me approach cute animal videos with an air of suspicion. I resent having to harden my heart to the possibility of an unlikely friendship between a very large dog and a very small one

Enjoy this old GIF with added sound. I'm not a fan of shouting, so I had to take a trip to some empty forest to record the scream. Apologies if you were scared by a loud shout in the woods yesterday

Every now and then someone says something to the effect of 'We have this new modern CSS thing. We don't need to set the z-index to 99999 anymore!'.

I wish to make myself clear. I set my z-indexes to 99999 as a matter of principle, not necessity. You can pry z-index: 99999 from my corpse.

A few people have asked if there’ll be a second issue of DOCTYPE - basically if it sells 1,000 copies I’ll feel comfortable with trying to squeeze more out of the idea in a fresh, interesting way (not just about money, need enough interest from buyers & contributors)

(it’s currently at 320 sold)

My employers at the time spoke to Gizmondo about game ideas, luckily nothing much happened as I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t have paid us before going bust
Do you remember Crispy Chicken Publishing's short-lived Gizmondo Power magazine? Of course you don't, because it wasn't real! This "advert" appeared in issue 1 of 360, which launched in the summer of 2005. With the Xbox 360 still months away, jokes like this helped to fill pages.

If someone believes an LLM is sentient, they should then be asked why they’re OK with creating, enslaving & destroying countless sentient beings to answer their prompts

I received my copy of DOCTYPE magazine, a genuine 'type this program in and run it'-style programming magazine but for a modern world, and enjoyed writing, debugging, playing, and then considering refining Stuart Langridge&#x

Wonder if it comes from people who arrived online post online being mostly "normal people talking to each other" and straight into "people following brands, influencers and celebrities" so only ever parsing accounts with, say, 10k+ followers as "public figures/brands" and not "normal people"
