No commercial vessel should be allowed to call a port without publishing its beneficial ownership details on the public record. Hidden vessel ownership, and beneficial ownership not only enables the Russian "ghost fleet", but also IUU fishing and forced labour on fishing and merchant vessels.

Land transparency is a key part of wider asset transparency, important to track down Illicit Financial Flows from illicit activity like illegal logging, crops grown on illegal land, kleptocrats and tax dodgers hiding behind secretive land ownership.
Huge win! Government announces plans to open up the Land Registry.

If delivered, will finally reveal more about who owns land in England and Wales.

Read my blog post for more details & how you can write to the Minister to make sure this now happens:

The Ocean Economy also needs to be built with transparency, integrity, and tax justice, and tackling all Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) that are associated with it. This is why vessel transparency and beneficial ownership transparency on publicly accessible registries is important to tackle abuses.

I know it's pointless to say this, but the Beneficial Ownership reporting is really simple to do. The only way it's an "absolute disaster" or "economic menace" is if you are fully aware that writing down your owners will produce criminal liability.
Great news for money launderers!

Ending enforcement of the US Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting is a win for the world of tax dodging, kleptocrats, oligarchs, financial secrecy linked to illegal fishing and logging, illegal wildlife trade, minerals and fossil fuels. Other countries need to redouble their efforts.
