Marking the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII, I wanted to write about the writers and directors who were working during the war and the incredible films they managed to produce - with particular focus on John Ford, William Wyler and Alfred Hitchcock.
MJ's @fionaunderhill.bsky.social says, "Modern day Hollywood can certainly learn a thing or two from the filmmakers who worked during World War II, they didn’t shy away from confronting uncomfortable truths..."

Check out the latest feature from Fiona on WWII films, 80 years later.

The Testament of Ann Lee was one of my most highly anticipated films of 2025. I LOVED The World to Come. I hadn't seen the trailer and when I heard "Shakers" I assumed the characters would be New York/New England based.

I thought the characters would sound like those in The Crucible (1996).

One of my favourite performances of recent years is Rory Kinnear's foul-mouthed PM in Netflix's The Diplomat - if you've been missing out on this fabulous show which is equal parts Aaron Sorkin and Armando Iannucci - do yourself a favour and give it a binge!
