I’m extremely saddened to share the news that Adam Quigley has recently passed away after navigating some challenging health issues. Adam’s passion for movies and his singular voice helped define our show in the early days.

You can share your remembrances of Adam here: murial.life/adamquigley

People magazine doing a better job covering this than the New York Times.

The Great Inversion is complete
Clear-eyed, fact-based, and written to explain to normies. No “both sidesing.” No “Trump officials disagree.”
No gaslighting that what we can see with our own eyes might not be true.

This is journalism. Well done, @people.com

If you’re not willing to draw the line on your participation in a platform at “it helps create sexualized images of minors against their will” then I’m not sure you have a line or that it’s particularly meaningful.

Many such cases but might as well acknowledge it.

For some reason this tweet comes to mind today.

Gotta say one of the downsides of living in Portugal (8 hrs ahead of PST) is seeing catastrophic news happen overnight, then seeing waves & waves of people I follow in the US realize what’s happened.

Like seeing a car crash in slowmo where you already know the outcome but it hasn’t happened yet

On our top 10 films of 2025 video, there is a commenter named Ballerina Is Of The Greatest who really loves the movie Ballerina (From The World of John Wick)

I watched BLUE MOON and it made me sad. Ethan Hawke’s
Lorenz Hart is depicted as a brilliant talent who is totally awful to work with & has zero self-awareness of his flaws or how he comes across to other people. His end is so tragic.

Couldn’t find anything to relate to about it at all, obviously.

It was lovely to meet @samadams.bsky.social in Porto, Portugal today. I’ve really enjoyed Sam’s work at Slate this year and think he’s one of the finest film critics working today.

Every morning my wife makes a breakfast sandwich with two eggs, but she removes one of the yolks to skip out on the cholesterol. The result is an egg that looks like it has a massive white component.

It’s unsettling. I think the Lord would find this to be an abomination in defiance of his creation

Merry Christmas from my neighbor’s dog!
December 25, 2025 at 9:33 PM
One thing I learned after spending Christmas in Portugal: they play a lot of American Christmas music everywhere but “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is NOT ubiquitous and constant like it is in the US.

In other words: Escape is possible, friends. You just need to know where to look.

Merry Christmas, Bluesky.

When Twitter got taken over, I thought there’d never be another community like it again. And there won’t be. But what’s here is nice.

This platform feels economically unsustainable. But if there’s anything this year has taught us, it’s to enjoy things while they last.

Me when there’s a new movie everyone has the wrong opinion about
Having a normal Christmas morning
December 25, 2025 at 9:01 AM
Our Xmas movie tonight was WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING (seen it b4). Thoughts:
-Frighteningly plausible. We’ve seen so many folks tell white lies that explode out of control.
-Sandra Bullock at the height of her powers.
-Is Bill Pullman actually attractive?
-Lit better than every Netflix original series

It's been a pleasure covering PLURIBUS for @davechen.bsky.social and Decoding TV. Here's my review of the season finale:

Here’s the problem with making Spider the emotional core of Avatar 3:

I hate this character. No shade to the actor but this guy sucks. He’s annoying as shit. If I showed up to a party and he was there, I’d leave the party. If he was in my friend group, I’d have to make some really hard decisions.

I watched AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH in Portugal today and I just want everyone to know that the entire movie was subtitled in English in Papyrus.

The entire movie.

New Chappelle special

CHAPPELLE: And another thing. I have 18 mansions now.

Crowd: [Uproarious laughter]

CHAPPELLE: who can keep up with all of that maintenance??!

Crowd: [Goes absolutely wild]

My thoughts on AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH [Mild spoilers]:
-A visual spectacle with no equal. Regardless of how you feel about these films, they are pushing the bounds of what’s possible with visual effects and photorealism in cinema and that’s admirable. (1/5)

After being extremely sick all week, NOW (FINALLY) WATCHING

This is akin to asking “how did Jesus die for the sins of people who weren’t even born yet?”

The answer is the infinite now theory, which posits that the flinstones were capable of experiencing all time in the universe simultaneously
how the fuck do the Flintstones know about Christmas
