I’m extremely saddened to share the news that Adam Quigley has recently passed away after navigating some challenging health issues. Adam’s passion for movies and his singular voice helped define our show in the early days.

For some reason this tweet comes to mind today.

On our top 10 films of 2025 video, there is a commenter named Ballerina Is Of The Greatest who really loves the movie Ballerina (From The World of John Wick)

I watched BLUE MOON and it made me sad. Ethan Hawke’s
Lorenz Hart is depicted as a brilliant talent who is totally awful to work with & has zero self-awareness of his flaws or how he comes across to other people. His end is so tragic.

Couldn’t find anything to relate to about it at all, obviously.

It was lovely to meet @samadams.bsky.social in Porto, Portugal today. I’ve really enjoyed Sam’s work at Slate this year and think he’s one of the finest film critics working today.

Every morning my wife makes a breakfast sandwich with two eggs, but she removes one of the yolks to skip out on the cholesterol. The result is an egg that looks like it has a massive white component.

It’s unsettling. I think the Lord would find this to be an abomination in defiance of his creation

Merry Christmas from my neighbor’s dog!
December 25, 2025 at 9:33 PM
Our Xmas movie tonight was WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING (seen it b4). Thoughts:
-Frighteningly plausible. We’ve seen so many folks tell white lies that explode out of control.
-Sandra Bullock at the height of her powers.
-Is Bill Pullman actually attractive?
-Lit better than every Netflix original series

Here’s the problem with making Spider the emotional core of Avatar 3:

I hate this character. No shade to the actor but this guy sucks. He’s annoying as shit. If I showed up to a party and he was there, I’d leave the party. If he was in my friend group, I’d have to make some really hard decisions.

After being extremely sick all week, NOW (FINALLY) WATCHING
December 21, 2025 at 10:40 AM
WAKE UP DEAD MAN may be my favorite KNIVES OUT movie. It is wildly ambitious, with Rian Johnson using the structure & pleasures of a locked door mystery to say something about the state of faith in America right now.

That something? People should choose mercy & grace instead of rage and vengeance.

This movie helped me understand myself and my background and my upbringing in a way that I have yet to fully process.

Amazing filmmaking and the left-handed girl will steal your heart.
December 11, 2025 at 10:47 PM
I’m sorry but I kind of hated this one.

Astonishing movie. A meditation on the nature of art and drama, and how we use these things to relate to one another. Incredible filmmaking and mind-blowing performances.

(In theaters late December)

Holy shit. Fucking incredible movie.

Trenchant, riveting, gut-wrenching, occasionally hilarious, strangely moving. My heart was pounding in my chest for most of this.

One of the best films of the year. Maybe THE best.

Just because a repressive regime ends doesn’t mean its effects are over.

*RECORD SCRATCH*

Ethan Hawke: Yep, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got here.

Really loved ETERNITY (in theaters now). There is no reason this movie needs to be almost 2 hours long but the chemistry between the leads is charming and there are some very powerful, emotional moments between them.

A movie about the difference between what we think love is and what it actually is
December 2, 2025 at 11:16 AM
Very rare for me to go from loving a film at its start to almost completely losing interest by the end, but it happened here

In Portugal, most kids’ films are dubbed instead of subtitled so I thought I wouldn’t get to see ZOOTOPIA 2 (ZOOTROPOLIS here) until VOD.

But several Portuguese listeners reached out to let me know they have special screenings in English (Versão Original)! So here I am at 920pm on Sunday let’s gooo

This movie emotionally devastated me.

Happy Thanksgiving, all.

This movie completely annihilated my nerves.

Spoilers for the Danny Boyle film YESTERDAY.

You know what still bothers the hell out of me 6 years later? Jack going to meet John Lennon at the end of this film and that being treated by all parties as some massive event. There's no reason anyone would give a shit about that guy in this world.

If INGLORIOUS BASTERDS is this genre’s GRAND THEFT AUTO, then SISU: ROAD TO REVENGE is its SAINTS ROW.

I won’t be taking any follow up questions.
