The Fifth Nat'l Climate Assessment is back up, fully functional, and no longer on a gov't website!

Huge thanks to the Climate.us team for making this valuable resource easily available to the public.

A big mahalo to Dr. Jane Lubchenco for sharing on LinkedIn

Well this is enlightening. Science is cool.

"Over the past 3000 years, large earthquakes in the Cascadia fault zone may have triggered as many as eight large quakes on the San Andreas fault."

A Trumper asked me today if I was one of those nutjobs trying to save polar bears.

My reply I think shocked him: No. The polar bears are already dead bears walking/swimming. We can't save them. They will go extinct in the wild. At this point, we're just trying to keep agriculture from collapsing.

"Holley et al. inventoried the potential endowment of unrecovered critical minerals in active US mines compared with imports. Their assessment suggests that 90% recovery of existing by-products could meet nearly all domestic demand for critical minerals."

By-product recovery from US metal mines could reduce import reliance for critical minerals
The United States (US) has sufficient geological endowment in active metal mines to reduce the nation’s dependence on critical mineral imports. Demand is increasing for cobalt, nickel, rare earth elem...

I was recently reminded that this is in the Project 2025 document. Cruelty is the point.

Love data! Bring it! The humor, too. It's badly needed. That old growth graph hurts my heart.
fishonareef.bsky.social
I do! We have a lot of great people out here in Hawaii working on it as well. And I love that you're sharing #DATA.

This is humorous, which is what they appear to be shooting for, albeit funny not funny. This is a false dichotomy. It's a rhetorical device to debate in bad faith. All plastic pollution is harmful to aquatic systems. Straws are low-hanging single use fruit. Changing people's behavior is harder.

This is great news!

"Governments are now prohibited from providing subsidies for overfished stocks and for fishing in international waters beyond their jurisdictions. Poorer states will be able to access a fund to help ease them into the deal."

Less winds = no upwelling The question is, have we reached a tipping point? The consequences will effect marine systems and the fisheries that depend on them.

We took our own look at the fossil fuel “orbiting debris field of oddballs and charlatans” cranked up for Trump to oppose climate action, but it’s hard to top McKibben on a roll. You go, Bill!

I can see why you might make that association. However, David has some particularly excellent points about how she is different. Jane Goodall made actual contributions to science in a time when women were disallowed. Times have changed. She is actually an influencer with a niche.
