(vinyl doesn't sound better than CD, it sounds different, because it's mastered differently, there's a difference)

Got my test tapes. Should be 3,15kHz, is 3,19kHz. I think I got pretty close when setting the speed yesterday just by listening to the music…

Picked up a newer tape deck today! Ran a bit slow but I got that roughly adjusted. No more humming and hissing, it’s capacitors are certainly in a better shape than the ones in the Geracord deck.
Also, along the way I also picked up some commodore stuff. One seller had six brand new datasettes!

Aahhh… well RIP Geracord GC6131.
I did intend replacing the capacitors to get rid of the terrible hum. Instead I broke off a set of special coils, that I could only replace with the same ones.
That means this tape deck is now for parts 😞

Still working, although the tape inside used to sound a lot better. It has seen some kilometers in cars in summer heat and winter cold, so its not really surprising it has degraded. Not to mention is is 25 years old itself, even if I just opened its packade like 10 years ago. (Geradcord 6131) #tape

This might have some relation to this new thing I got. As pretty much all of these new tape capable devices it’s can’t record tape for its life, but the playback might be alright.

Time to make a new mixtape! Let’s see if that deck still works like it used to!
Note: that thing is calibrated by my ears years ago. On the grand scheme of HIFI decks it probably makes terrible recordings because of that. I am looking into properly calibrating it, but it’s difficult.

One thing I never seize to wonder is the sound CD drives make…
With floppy drives or such, it’s kinda obvious, but CD drives make strange noises that are mechanical hard to explain… wonders of technology from yesterday…

Using my Macbook pro again after some time. May I say, may 5 years old Macbook has aged like... a 5 years old thin and light laptop...
It's struggling, my iPad Pro 3th gen runs smoother, which isn't really a surprise because it is actually more powerful... (8th gen Intel i5 vs Apple M1) #apple

Lost my iPhone at a con. Could now test out Apples find my device in praxis. It works really well actually. Put it in Lost mode, could enter a phone number and a message, and the phone went in power saving mode, locked itself, the apple wallet and asked for full verification when I found it.

I naturally installed some games on the two 1500 series… but I don’t really have a conclusion for the 1520D…
It’s screen lets it down. There’s hardly a game you can actually play with an probably ~1s pixel response time… which leaves this one as a museum piece, but not as a usable one… 🤔

The whole family of Compaq Armada laptops; 1520D, 1590DMT, 1750.
Now after thinking with them and finally getting all three in a working state - I have to figure out what to do with them 😅

Sometimes they fall
And leave their mark upon the ground,
But it’s alright:
They will appear again
Just like us.

When the pretty solution doesn’t work, you have to make the best out of what you have…
I got a DB25 extension that I cut down to DB23, but it turns out that the extension can’t deliver enough Power over its length…

Have to say, Windows 95 is astonishingly snappy, even directly compared to windows 98…
And I am running it on a Pentium 133 with 65mb ram currently…

Installing windows 95 (again). This time on a gigantic 6gb harddrive (probably about the biggest one I can make this Armada 1520D accept)

Found the culprit, the new Amiga 1.5mb ram extension apparently died.

The Amiga died a few days ago… I was just about calling it finished…
I wont give up on it, but it’s annoying. It’s not giving me a screen, and the led stays on, but dim, so it seems to fail initiating
