An attribute I find endearing about Alan Parsons as a singer is how like. When we describe men as having a "divorced" vibe we usually mean that they seem like, scuzzy or slovenly or vindictive. And Alan Parsons has a divorced vibe in more of a Kirk Van Houten racecar bed way

Thank goodness a machine can distill all the attributes I associate with this place and time, real or imagined, into a single glossy package. otherwise I might have to look at stuff actually from that place and time and confront the fact that it might be different or even worse than I remember

honestly there's something kind of powerfully ironic about ai nostalgia slop bc like. if these things had actually existed in the way you want to remember them you wouldn't need to synthesize a video of them from whole cloth. like literally any media from that time would do

Pros of canvassing:
• often pays pretty decently
• helps get people involved in politics, even if it's only in a small way
• exercise
• the chance to meet people and see neighborhoods you wouldn't have otherwise
Cons:
• your phone will forevermore ask if you want to open text files with minivan

(it's not actually graphic but I marked it as such for spoiler reasons) (it's not really a spoiler spoiler either, more of a thematic spoiler, if that matters to you at all)

I'm also thinking about the final staff room segment from Matsuribayashi. It's so hard to put into words how this makes me feel, this admission of "I know what I've written doesn't perfectly reflect reality, and that's on purpose. This is, in a small way, an escapist fantasy."
"In other words, can you see that in the worlds of Higurashi, anything can be overcome when people talk to each other and help one another?

Unfortunately, that doesn't happen in reality...
Helping each other creates friction, and often times, working alone is a lot simpler.

However, we always hope that we can connect with other people and understand each other, so that we can face any difficulty...

In that sense, this world is a fantasy.

That's right. In the worlds of Higurashi, there is one magical rule.

That is to talk to others and accept help from them. Then you can defeat anything.
With that, it is possible to make a miracle happen."

Thinking once again about his afterword from the (highly underrated imo!) spinoff sequel manga Higurashi Rei. As dubious as it is to make character judgments about someone through their art, there's no way to ignore the sincere sense of compassion in almost everything ryukishi writes
"Nowadays, thanks to smartphones and the internet, we live in an age where people can communicate constantly, regardless of distance and time. But on the other hand, it's very common for people to never greet their neighbors at all, where nobody in their immediate vicinity aside from ows their name. In other words, you could say it's a conspicuously black and white era, where we can communicate more easily and more frequently with people of the same mindset and interests, while not communicating at all with the people who do not, regardless how physically close they may be.

Would a Keiichi-style approach of aggressively getting close to people and pressuring them into friendship still work in an era like this? That was the starting point for the concept of "Higurashi Rei."

Back in the Showa era, it was a world where your neighbors were your people, they went to the same school, lived the same sort of life, you knew the faces of every single family around you, and everyone's personal values were mostly aligned, so I think Keiichi's approach would work there. But today, people with various conflicting values and beliefs live in close proximity to one another, it's an era where people must coexist by respecting one another's diversity. In times like these. Keiichi's approach may work on some people, but there are also others who may view his approach as a form of harassment."
