multiple explanations of a phenomenon may be true: yes, it's a naked money grab; yes, it's a clear power grab; yes, it's a nazi takeover; yes, it's an autogolpe.

the totalitarian states are always incredibly corrupt; morally, financially, politically – corruption is both the goal and the method.

Every photo from Minneapolis looks like this. Cops decked out with guns and full tac gear facing off against people in bathrobes, parkas, and sweatpants armed only with whistles and cell phones.

Yet every verified MAGA chode on X dutifully calls it a riot or violent insurrection.

so the good news is that poland won't join trump's board of peace grift, but the annoying news is that our prime minister's statement is as mealy-mouthed as possible.

i understand the reason why, but it still leaves a very specific distaste.

My sense of Minnesota today is that there’s less tear gas and the same amount of unlawful detention, destruction of families, loss of livelihood, people in hiding.

There is less tear gas at places like Lake and Lyndale, so it’s not making news.

even when you limit things to europe, the chants in latin were incredibly popular for hundreds of years among the population that in general didn't speak the language :->

On that note:

Trans authors (I mean authors who are trans, NOT cis people who write about trans people), drop your book links here and I'll try to repost as many as I can throughout the day.

Cis people: Repost trans authors' book links.

Cis people who want to complain about being excluded: gtfo
Being a trans author is fucking weird right now. Hell is actively unfolding all around us but I still need to be like, "hey, everyone, wanna buy my silly little queer book? It won't make anything better, but it's kinda fun?"

So....hey, everyone, wanna buy my silly little queer book?

so the brits are still freaking out about immigrants even after shanking themselves through brexit in order to stop freedom of movement?

i can't help but wonder if the immigration isn't just a pretext, and if perhaps the brits are just fucking racists who hate everyone else.

Just wanted to say thanks to the many actual academics working on AI's deleterious effects on social economies and culture replying with links to their work. I'll just quote skeet them here

(I'm not an academic, I'm a hacker and trans rights researcher with some skin in tech and humanities)
Insightful thread.
I think this argument rhymes with work @ntusikov.bsky.social and I have done using Susan Strange’s knowledge structure concept. AI’s effect on society is primarily in its reconception of knowledge away from “scientific” expertise and toward correlation-driven oracular knowledge.
There's a kind of intellectual malaise among a certain kind of socialist that just doesn't understand automation and I think probably comes from not having worked much on or around it.

The prospect of AI as a fantasy capacity to automate labour and free us from drudgery I think corresponds to...

his excellency the american ambassador to poland, thomas rose, can frankly fuck off and inhale even more bathing salts, for all that i care.
February 10, 2026 at 3:11 PM
lol.
In his first interview since cutting ties with the speaker of Poland's parliament over his "outrageous insults" against President Donald Trump, the US ambassador has refused to specify what those insults were.

He also says the US remains "Poland’s best ally and greatest friend".

and even if you adjusted for population and border length it would probably still look unfavourable for the united states, and not for the lack of trying of the east germany's authoritarians.

I hadn’t known this. Two men who were accused of sexual abuse on the Shitty Media Men document that I created back in 2017 reached out to Michael Wolff for help as they looked to sue me, and Wolf forwarded their concerns to Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein offered to help. www.jmail.world/thread/EFTA0...

This is the smart person’s “if wishes were horses.” Morozov repeatedly asserts that technologies have politics but he chooses to overlook here that technologies do also have material properties that circumscribe their politics. www.theideasletter.org/essay/social...

i thought that high school chemistry already taught people that if you want to go for simple solutions, the other end of pH scale is what you're looking for. it's basic.
February 10, 2026 at 12:51 PM
it's not. you don't want to use acids to dissolve bodies.

age verification? i crossed the german-german border in 1989.
Age verification? Growing up I used a gramophone to play my mum's 78rpm jazz records. And how to indicate I was about to make a turn by sticking my arm out the driver's side window on vehicles that didn't have indicators. (It was on the driving test back then.)
Age verification?

I used to have to stick my finger into one of several holes in a phone and rotate a circular piece of plastic, repeating the process a certain number of times to input the number I wanted to call.
