Regulations stop rich people, powerful corporations, and crooks from cheating you, poisoning you, and harming you. Deregulation is always bad for you and empowers others to harm you.

We get major insights into the other characters in those 8 episodes and James Darren is fabulous as that character.

DS9 S6E19: most of the ep is a monologue from Capt. Sisko. Very good episode where we see him struggle with the ends justifying the means and get even more depth from Garek.

S6E20: Much lighter. 1st of 8 episodes featuring Vic Fontaine, a hologram that they give a full character arc to in that 8.

He's been in the prison nearly a year and spent 2 years in a county mail before taking his plea. The state prison is such a horror show, where my brother has it better than many inmates, that it nearly makes the Marion county jail (where he nearly did the fiber optic cabling; irony) look humane.

Absolutely 100% this. Correct in every syllable.

Although I've had a lot of thoughts about this thread each time it has popped back up for me, the one I keep coming back to is wondering how much of "ask culture vs. guess culture" also intersects with neurodivergence, which is a thing I've never really thought about before.

A while ago I bought the Mudita Kompakt, which is an e-ink screen phone that isn't full on "dumb phone", but which also doesn't have the google play store on it. It's got a few built in apps and I sideloaded Beeper for messaging. I forward my number to it and try to use it when outside of work hours

It must be interesting to live in a world where there were no events that happened longer ago than maybe 5 years (or 5 months), at least not ones you have to know anything about.

There were some folks in Czechoslovakia and Austria who might object to "first" there, but at least they didn't have to be the guinea pigs for blitzkrieg.

I went to the trouble last week of getting a prescription for it from my doc. I'm leaving in a few minutes to actually get it and I'm slightly miffed that I went to that trouble for nothing.

I couldn’t find any information about this on the news sites, only on Nola.gov, but you don’t need a prescription anymore to get a COVID-19 vaccine in Louisiana. Spread the word, a lot of people were probably not going to the 💉because of that dumb restriction that was in place.

It’s definitely all connected, which is why I think we should be doing all of it. I could be wrong about the belief that the other stuff all disappears without a stable climate, but right now that’s my baseline assumption.

I haven't. And I only reply when it's someone I know or have interacted with a lot, but I do actually often say something close to "I'm blissfully unaware of what/what you're talking about and I'd like to keep it that way. :) "

Don't know much about her, but the "oof" is why I stay out of talking about the current Venezuelan situation. Maduro is a dumb thug, but the opposition leadership in that country tends to be the absolute worst kind of right wing 'white' elites who've oppressed people for centuries there.

The frequency with which I make a reply along these lines to some post about some shit stirrer here or on IG makes me happy.

I am a big fan of the things Anthony Jeselnik says on this topic, generally, and David Cross and Marc Maron's rants abou the comedians who went to Riyadh, specifically.

I think it's important to do all of them, but if I have to choose, it'll always be climate action simply because I believe climate collapse brings fascist dictatorship, slavery, and war to most of humanity and no other progressive cause is possible in that context. We lose everything.

My brother is in that prison. It's the third execution since he's been there. He told me earlier this week that he saw the previous two guy's walk to the execution building. He's in a 5th(?) floor cell and can see outside from some places on his floor.

I saw someone comment on the announcement that she was bound to fail it made me realize how much most people don't understand that their definition of "failure" in a role like this is exactly why she was hired. Her "failure" will the win her sponsors are looking for.
