Hello and happy #nokings ! You might've found this page through my flyer (shown in the pics here). I'm asking my fellow Floridians (esp. Pinellas Dist. 13!) to tell our reps to restore funding to FEMA + NOAA! I also gather news articles and post helpful links here and at linktr.ee/flsolarpunk

The Texas floods are devastating and I hope we don't have to have more tragedies like this before staff and funding are restored to the NWS. Weather is everywhere, and Americans NEED accurate and on-time forecasts and alerts.

I've been having trouble keeping up with National Weather Service, NOAA, and FEMA news and so I wanted to say that I won't be posting here or updating my news roundup page (on my linktree) for a while.

In the spring of 2008, I feared America was on the verge of war with Iran — and, believing that it’s good style to get to know people before you bomb them, I made “Rick Steves’ Iran,” a one-hour special that could (and would) only debut on PBS. Sadly, this special has become pertinent again today.

Join Rick as he explores the most surprising and fascinating land he's ever visited: Iran. In a one-hour, ground-breaking travel special on public television, you'll discover the splendid monuments of...

It's called the Weather Workforce Improvement Act. #NOAA #NWS
June 16, 2025 at 4:20 PM
I plan to catch up on NOAA/NWS stuff this week, namely HR 3809 by Rep. Moskowitz (D-FL 23) and Rep. Flood (R-NE 1, good name for sponsoring a disaster management bill).
The bill would make it difficult to cut National Weather Service staff in future by declaring them "critical for public safety."

Thank you. I'm not familiar with those sites, so I'll check them out.

2. Prepare well for this hurricane season. Know your evacuation routes and have supplies ready. No need to hoard supplies or panic buy, there's enough for everyone.

ALL of us are what make Pinellas County great. Let's check in on our neighbors and support each other (mutual aid!).

We are heading into hurricane season with the knowledge that NOAA cuts have limited the agency's ability to plan and forecast the coming storms. It's not right -- but we can do something about it.
1. Call our reps and urge them to restore funding and staff to NOAA!

I needed this practical yet positive take on Melon Husk's retreat. It was coordinated action that brought this about -- from Tesla Takedown protests to noncooperation from federal workers. And we're just getting started! Let's celebrate and keep coordinating as we prepare for #NoKings June 14.
