Another display deck at The Hangar got a bit of re-arrangement yesterday. The Canadian 🇨🇦 section now has a couple of more early jets added. (The maintenance crew wore themselves out with all that maneuvering in this tight space.) - Cheers 🍻 #ModelAircraft
Got my two kits set now for their next colour coat. Hoping to get these two A-4 Skyhawks back into the paint shop tomorrow. A-4M & TA-4J (Aggressors) #ModelAircraft #HistScaleModels

It’s been a while since I posted anything. This P-40E has been on the bench far too long. That said, it’s hard to get a bad result with these Edward P-40’s if you take your are patient.

Some pics including a family photo.

#histscalemodels #scalemodels After a Special Hobby, Kotare, Roden and two Wingnut Wings builds, I needed a break. I got a Tamiya Bristol Beaufighter 1/48 that I’m building out of the box. What a joy. Perfect fit, no PE, 90% of the interior will be hidden. It took me only 4 hours to this point.

A bit of weathering work on the second colour coat of these two A-4 Skyhawks is all that has managed to happen lately A-4M & TA-4J (Aggressors) #ModelAircraft #HistScaleModels

The reason you can’t have gun spot on top of the wing is the massive low pressure area that creates lift. It pulls all the gun spot off the wing. Conversely, it gets forced into the bottom of the wing by the high pressure that also creates lift. Basic aerodynamics that most modelers ignore.

What you primarily have is faded and chipped paint that is dirty (dirt, not smoke) and bleached by the sun. It alternates with oil stained close to, and on the fuselage and dirty footprints and handprints. Modelers tend to copy modelers, not real planes.

After Christmas trip to fatherland i finally got to do something with my Spitfire. Tried to do some mild post-shading, but i dont really know, what im doing, imitating youtube 😀 And now im thinking, i should have maybe applied at least the big roundels first. #histscalemodels

Here's a side-by-side comparison of AK Xtreme Metal's aluminum and Tamiya's XF-16 flat aluminum. Both applied over bare plastic.

(Taken in natural indirect window light.)

I'm a die-hard Tamiya fan but their metal finishes (like most acrylics) are too "grainy."

Decal day 4. I was fearing the worst after trouble with fuel tank stencils but it is going well so far.

#histscalemodels.

As an aside the rain has finally stopped after 22 days of the stuff. Mostly because it is colder so it is snow instead.

Pacific war aircraft display mockup. The aircraft are arranged by type and will eventually have boxes under to show relationships - two at Coral Sea, four at Midway and three in the March ‘45 Tokyo raids. #HistScaleModels

*Europe voice* It's the final gloss coat!

Decals on, tail attached, protective coat sprayed. Time for weathering.

Anyone got recommendations for what panel line wash to use here? Should I just go black? Or something light and contrasty?

I hand painted the spinner. It is slightly simplified version of the original one;)Raw umber and lamp black from Winsor Newton mixed with Tamiya Enamel Thinner serve as wash here. Coming closer to the end of this Focke:) #histscalemodels #luftwaffe #scalemodels #eduard

Token Electra cockpit. I've also started painting the passenger seats, but am a bit stuck on what colour to paint the floor. The real thing is some kind of stripy carpet, but I think I'll just end up painting it dark grey. You'll never see most of it anyway.

This has turned into a frustrating project … it’s a good kit but I screwed up the engines, threw away a sprue too soon and have lost parts in the carpet. So I need to leave it off now and move on. #HistScaleModels #Blenheim
