🤑 Would you donate to save the fossil fuel industry?

Nah, we wouldn't either, but that doesn't matter – the govt has already committed £22bn and counting of your money to a tech that's meant to reduce emissions but is actually a lifeline for oil and gas.

Last year’s continued fight for a circular economy was symbolised by people power. We came together with communities in Scotland and across the world to fight for a world where material use is responsible and sustainable.

In 2025, people power forced the energy giant SSE to re-assess the climate harm from its Peterhead gas plans.

SSE were forced to account for the pollution from extracting & transporting gas from around the world to be burned at Peterhead. This tripled the company's earlier pollution estimates! 🧵

2025 started with a big victory as Rosebank oil field approval was declared unlawful in court.

This gave us a huge opportunity to keep winning the argument about new oil being bad for bills, terrible for the climate and undermining the energy transition.

2025 has been a massive year for fossil fuel activism in Scotland.

At the start of the year, we took action to highlight fossil fuel industry greenwashing around the con of carbon capture, and teamed up with fuel poverty activists on the day energy bills went up again.

2025 saw a major legal victory for the #StopRosebank campaign & a landmark decision to ban new oil drilling.

But many politicians have been captured by fossil fuel lobbyists – demanding we forget about climate breakdown & focus instead on increasing oil company profits

Fantastic campaigning means the Peterhead gas burning power station still hasn't been approved by Scottish Ministers.

With more evidence of its climate harm revealed & the Acorn carbon capture project falling apart, this entire scheme looks like a worse idea every day.

This year, affected workers & communities made it clear that they are unwilling to put up with an unjust energy transition.

This has created powerful campaigning and action in some places, but there has also been an increasingly polarised debate over the future of the oil and gas industry. 🧵

The biggest backer of the Acorn carbon capture project is pulling out. It is clear that this technology cannot be relied on.

Scottish Ministers must now reject plans for a new gas burning power station at Peterhead once and for all.

Leaving workers at the hands of uncaring corporations & the market is deeply unjust.
