In June, leaders from the Wampís Nation in the Amazon visited Edinburgh and met with our supporters, in an inspiring meeting which emphasised how our campaigning connects with the same struggles against corporate greed.

Last year’s continued fight for a circular economy was symbolised by people power. We came together with communities in Scotland and across the world to fight for a world where material use is responsible and sustainable.

The delusion of carbon capture was brutally exposed in December when the Acorn project’s biggest backer Storegga announced it was pulling out.

This shows that in 2026, Ministers must revise their Climate Plan and finally reject the Peterhead gas project once and for all.

These tireless campaigners spoke with communities in towns and villages along the way raising awareness of the climate, health, and nature impacts the project would create.

They highlighted the explosion of carbon pipeline in Mississippi in 2020 which injured people and paralysed vehicles.
January 2, 2026 at 12:05 PM
The amazing North Sea Knitters did a 170 mile 'Pipeline Pilgrimage' cycling from Grangemouth to St Fergus along the route of a propsed pipeline for any carbon that could be captured.

In 2025, people power forced the energy giant SSE to re-assess the climate harm from its Peterhead gas plans.

SSE were forced to account for the pollution from extracting & transporting gas from around the world to be burned at Peterhead. This tripled the company's earlier pollution estimates! 🧵

Our household energy bills were driven upwards again by greedy fossil fuel companies. We joined fuel poverty groups in protest outside energy giant SSE’s office in Glasgow.

Over 1 million people wrote to Keir Starmer demanding a transition that supports workers as we move away from oil & gas.
December 30, 2025 at 9:00 AM
And of course the last quarter of the year saw a massive mobilisation of the whole movement with Scotland’s Climate March, mass lobby & Scotland Demands Better protest.

We are going into 2026 with renewed energy, enthusiasm and vigour for the fight that’s ahead – and you should join us.

In Glasgow this summer, it was great to spend some time planning what a brighter future might look like with the alternative energy futures event, where we learnt about community and publicly owned energy generation and explored how we might make it a reality.
December 29, 2025 at 5:41 PM
Summer saw the formation of the Peterhead power station campaign forum - an amazing group of FoES members joining forces.

Their first success was to organise powerful demonstrations both inside and outside SSE’s AGM in Perth. They are a formidable bunch – get in touch if you’d like to join!

2025 has been a massive year for fossil fuel activism in Scotland.

At the start of the year, we took action to highlight fossil fuel industry greenwashing around the con of carbon capture, and teamed up with fuel poverty activists on the day energy bills went up again.

The @platform1983.bsky.social survey of oil workers showed how bleak things are in the oil and gas industry.

A quarter of them are looking to leave and only 1 in 5 reported being satisfied with their job.

In the face of government inaction, workers have told them exactly what’s needed.
December 27, 2025 at 10:12 AM
In May, climate groups joined trade unions in demanding the Chancellor deliver an emergency funding package for North Sea oil & gas workers.

This included investing to create permanent, local jobs in publicly owned wind manufacturing, investing in ports & a dedicated training fund for workers

International human rights experts this month told the Scottish Government how it can reduce the harms of damaging business supply chains.

In this clip, expert Charles B. Chilufya from Kenya details how the draft circular economy strategy could be improved to ensure supply chains cause less harm.

In Aberdeen in November, Palestine solidarity campaigners were outside the Dana Petroleum headquarters, calling for it to end its contract with the Israeli Government.
December 19, 2025 at 10:07 AM
Scotland’s Climate March took to the streets of Glasgow to demand climate action in November.

We came together from across our movements – from Palestine solidarity, migrant justice, nature protection, and fighting for a transition that creates jobs and fights poverty.
December 19, 2025 at 10:07 AM
In August, Scottish communities took action and joined the global push for a plan to end plastic pollution.

Our Circular Economy Campaigner Kim, travelled to Geneva for the Global Plastics Treaty negotiations.

June also saw a visit from indigenous leaders from the Wampís Nation in the Amazon, who spoke at our monthly National Meeting.

They explained about their fight for autonomy and how this is connected to Scottish supply chains.
December 19, 2025 at 10:07 AM
2025 marked a year of movement building, actions and demonstrations – we spoke out against big polluters and politicians that want to slow down climate action. 📢

Here are just a few of our highlights 🧵

Scottish Ministers' huge climate gamble with carbon capture is delusional. 🤯

Ministers are betting that this dodgy tech will cut equivalent of 1/3 of *all Scottish emissions* by 2040.

But right now there is no plant, no planning application & now the main developer is quitting.
December 8, 2025 at 11:08 AM
The Scottish Gov's new Climate Plan is dangerously over-reliant on carbon capture to make its sums add up.

Ministers have made a huge gamble that carbon capture can make massive emissions cuts in the next decade.

And now the main corporate backer has walked away.

(NETs = Carbon Capture 👇)
