We need a plan which pushes for real, transformational change, including:

Cutting the amount of materials used in Scotland 👚

Making big businesses pay for the cleanup of their products 💰

Giving everyone access to good reuse and recycling services ♻️

Meanwhile in Scotland, we worked with communities opposing toxic incinerators in their local areas, forged links with coastal communities dealing with plastic pollution and built momentum for an exciting new campaign in 2026.

Stay tuned!

A year fighting for a circular economy
We’ve had an extraordinary year where we learnt how Scottish supply chains are influencing resource exploitation in South America, we joined the fight for a global plastics treaty and we supported…

In August, our campaigner Kim travelled to Geneva to attend the Global Plastics Treaty negotiations.

Petro-states sabotaged the process, causing talks to break down, but it was a valuable opportunity to forge closer ties with international allies working for a world free of plastic pollution.

In June, leaders from the Wampís Nation in the Amazon visited Edinburgh and met with our supporters, in an inspiring meeting which emphasised how our campaigning connects with the same struggles against corporate greed.

The delusion of carbon capture was brutally exposed in December when the Acorn project’s biggest backer Storegga announced it was pulling out.

This shows that in 2026, Ministers must revise their Climate Plan and finally reject the Peterhead gas project once and for all.

Despite the lack of any progress with the technology, the Scot Gov published a Climate Plan which is dangerously over-reliant on carbon capture.

Instead of action to boost warm homes & public transport, Ministers are opting for the fairytale of carbon capture.

These tireless campaigners spoke with communities in towns and villages along the way raising awareness of the climate, health, and nature impacts the project would create.

They highlighted the explosion of carbon pipeline in Mississippi in 2020 which injured people and paralysed vehicles.

The amazing North Sea Knitters did a 170 mile 'Pipeline Pilgrimage' cycling from Grangemouth to St Fergus along the route of a propsed pipeline for any carbon that could be captured.

In the summer, the Acorn carbon capture project was promised £280million in public handouts.

We’re told public services are struggling for cash – yet big polluters are being given huge subsidies by Government.

History shows that carbon capture never delivers so this is money for greenwashing.

The major breakthrough happened in November with the UK Govt confirming it will ban exploration for new oil fields. This decision wasnt perfect but it was reward for years of tireless campaigning by the UK climate movement.

We will still need to #StopRosebank but this was a landmark moment.

Many politicians acted as mouthpieces for oil company lobbyists this year - demanding new oil drilling and lower taxes on major polluters.

They neglected to tell the public that these plans would mean less money for public services and worsening climate disasters.
