There is no reason to believe that Trump and the Republicans will not try and outwardly rig the 2026 midterms. B/w the indictments of political foes and the pardoning of allies, any veneer of an independent and fair judicial system has been washed away.

While Hegseth's and Trump's speeches to 🇺🇸's generals provided plenty of meme-fodder, rhetoric around focusing on the enemy at home should provoke worries.
It must be remembered that the constitution, bill of rights really are just words on paper.
They can be exploited and ignored.

While the sight of National Guard troops in the street and metro stations rightly elicits jokes about how useless their presence is, the danger is that the constant sight of soldiers inoculates citizens to the constant sight of the military, allowing for the militarization of society.
