WSJ: President Trump believed his Truth Social post demanding prosecutions of James Comey and other political foes was a private message to his attorney general, and "and was surprised to learn it was public."

Losses from Bluetooth are just so low, and analog signal preservation is just that hard.

If AirPods' DACs don't seem to keep AirPods Max from having less distortion than $2,000 Sennheiser headphones, then I don't think you can call Bluetooth a limiting factor here.

from the other post. Adding the compounded errors together from AAC *and* the Hugo 2 itself (to do a wireless setup with an expensive DAC), then hooking up wired headphones to the Hugo 2, you're still moving audio over Bluetooth and getting quality than a different (still good) 100% wired setup.

I was responding to the claim that "a wired connection is going to outperform lossy AAC"

But we can still address this quantitatively: take the error from a wired connection to a nice, inexpensive DAC (see below), and your favorite extremely expensive Bluetooth-compatible DAC, like the Chord Hugo 2

you that maintaining perfect analog signal integrity in something like a smartphone or PC is impossible, and any audio engineer will tell you that the best lossy compression is practically transparent.

It's only conventional wisdom that's wrong, not professional wisdom.

What have you read on this? The folks over soundexpert.org/home got professional-grade measuring equipment, spending thousands on DACs, and measured how a signal was distorted after going through the DAC. They then measured distortion after going through a codec.

Any electrical engineer will tell
foxes.bsky.social
The 2nd post, directly below that one, compares the quality of those codecs to a $2,125 wired DAC's output.

Analog electronics are a nightmare. It is very unlikely that your analog output will be in an electrical environment that can compete w/an electrically isolated wireless product's.

The Chord Hugo 2 is a $2,175 DAC. It is very high quality.

For comparison, loss from Bluetooth codecs, in actually-challenging situations, e.g. encoding noise. Notice how in any situation w/human-perceptible loss, the expensive DAC does worse (often much worse) than high-bitrate Bluetooth codecs.

(Post 1/2)

It's not a matter of opinion. Apple's AAC codec is better than LDAC 990 (pic 1, pic 2), aptX, Android's AAC (by far), and any other similar Android codec.

They launched actual lossless, though the difference between "real" lossless and "very high" should be completely indistinguishable for human ears.

Apple AAC and Apple's DACs (their cheap 3.5mm USB C to 3.5mm DAC outperforming a lot of older, very expensive, huge DACs) will have less loss than a 3.5mm cable through a typical computer or wired DAC that has to deal with ground loops and such.

Out of curiosity, would you know anything of what happened to the DRACOs antiviral project off the top of your head? I never had the background to assess whether it was crankery, and it's hard to tell whether it hasn't gone anywhere because pharmaceuticals development is slow, or if it's just fake.

The Cortana UX on Windows Phone was gorgeous by the design standards of the time.

It just looked so nice on the Nokia OLED screens.

my productivity hack is taking it on an empty stomach, immediately starting work, feeling wired and biologically incapable of doing anything other than work for the next 10 hours, and then going home and feeling like I'm going to die

I think a threshold question for high-level politics is "can you give a cogent answer to a skeptical question from an interviewer on a wide range of issues?"

Mamdani passes the test, as do Vance & Newsom & Pete — but most contemporary Dems don't.

This is huge: “A drug that provides near-perfect protection against H.I.V. with shots just twice a year will be made available at $40 per patient annually in low- and middle-income countries, offering new hope… making lenacapavir a realistic choice in countries with constrained resources.”
