Interpreting EEG requires understanding how the skull smears electrical fields as they propagate from the cortex. I made a browser-based simulator for my EEG class to visualize how dipole depth/orientation change the topomap.

I love papers that summarize what we know versus don't about a thing (most often via a model) and lead to clarity about what's unknown.

Three cheers to @fabienvinckier.bsky.social et al for this paper that does exactly in a space with much too little clarity: mood!

🐳 🐙 Docker Compose Tip #12

One Dockerfile, multiple environment builds!

Use `target` to build specific stages:
• Dev stage: 450MB (with tools)
• Prod stage: 12MB (optimized)

That's 37x smaller! Same Dockerfile.

Apparently, Meetup now displays ads in any emails from their platform. An event attendee for GNV Tech Chats sent me this screenshot of a scammy-type ad in the email that announced the new event I just scheduled.

I saw that Kaggle has an API, so I thought I'd try to automate the step of uploading a new version of datasets. But, it was a bit difficult due to errors in their docs & format inconsistencies. Thought I'd write up a post for the next person. Check it out here: frankcorso.me/update-datas...

For independent data people, where do you send alerts for things that need your attention? I want to get alerted if data pipelines fail, but it's just me, so I don't have Slack or similar.

I don't keep my email open so might not see an alert for hours, but I also don't want to receive texts.

It’s frustrating that most event platforms lock API behind expensive plans. Meetup, Luma, and others restrict the API to $50+ monthly plans. They already scale plans based on guests, events, and payments so why charge for something that would help get the platform more usage?

Upping this because it's an important read: results suggest there are spatially distributed brain areas which appear to use oxygen *more efficiently* during tasks, especially in the DMN - which is contrary to the assumptions made by conventional BOLD.
