Stay warm. Stay safe.

If things get dangerously cold with no power, you can consider going to one of our warming locations.
NFD and MNPD are opening all Nashville Fire Stations and Metro Nashville Police Precinct Community Rooms, except for the Central Precinct and the East Precinct, as warming locations for residents affected by the current cold weather.

These locations will be open 24/7 until further notice.

Taking stock of a dangerous situation w/ lots of ice overnight. Biggest immediate issues are down trees taking power lines down with them and blocking roadways.

Call 615-234-0000 to report power outages, 311 or @hubnashville.bsky.social for non-emergencies, and 911 for life-threatening emergencies.

A significant, long-duration winter storm will bring widespread heavy snow, sleet, & freezing rain to a large part of the U.S. through Monday. Widespread travel disruptions, prolonged power outages, and vast tree damage is likely.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to log off, every week there’s something fun or interesting happening somewhere in Metro, usually in our schools, parks, or libraries. And usually free or nominal cost.

Try something new in 2026!

“Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering, 'It will be happier.'”

I like @nashvillebanner.bsky.social’s history and context when they don’t publish a full newsletter, and I especially liked today’s “Quote of Note.”

Happy New Year, everyone!

Five years ago today, we awoke to one of the strangest Christmases ever in Nashville that left a historic part of the city badly damaged.

Today, we can be encouraged by the process of rebuilding and recovery that has left some things—while different—better above ground and below.
It has been nearly five years since a suicide bombing on Christmas altered the architecture and identity of Nashville’s Second Avenue. With a reopening next week, the street is coming back.

One of the reasons we started posting weekly events calendars at @nashville.gov was to highlight how many great—often free—things for kids of all ages are happening around the city in public spaces, often easy to access.
Being a parent in Nashville you realize how few great places there in this city that are free and easy to take your kids.

The downtown library was one of them, and we sorely miss it.
y’all ever think about how they blew up the library

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Today I’m especially thankful for those who keep the world working even on holidays and those who work every day to make the world just a little better (best of all when that includes acts of kindness).

Okay but GoldenEye 007 for N64 was the real legacy.
'Whilst CASINO ROYALE (2006) is regarded as the leaping Bond reboot of record, it is Brosnan’s debut that was the franchise’s real guarantor.'

30 years ago tonight a major notch on Bond's movie bedpost premiered in NYC:
