“There were early concerns that fare-free travel would heap extra burdens on bus drivers, drawing homeless people or anything-goes behavior. Yet several drivers said that not having to ask passengers for payment or transfers has led to less friction with riders.”

I drove through this today. It is a very active, two-way greenway crossing.

There was NOTHING telling me as a driver to look both ways. Nothing.

Despite being the vulnerable users, bicyclists and peds are held to a higher standard of safety every time so we can avoid motor vehicle blame and delay.
Update: this is not what we meant

If you've gotta put a sign out, it's an indication you probably just need to remove the buttons and make the walk signal automatic.

Otherwise it's just a weird fetish.

Never honk at your friend riding a bicycle because they will think someone in a car, like usual, is trying to murder them.
i always have to resist the urge to honk and yell obnoxiously when i am behind the wheel and see one of my friends riding their bike

If we want to get serious about protecting people, we will start deploying structural bollards that will stop drivers from lane departures.
Update - apparently a second light post has been mowed down? There's a bunch more broken glass in the bike lane

Happy birthday to us! Walk Bike Nashville was founded on November 10, 1998. Twenty-seven years later, we’re still working to make Nashville more walkable, bikeable, and livable. Here are some highlights from the last 27 years.

I'm a big fan of PHBs for major arterials.

They are NOT designed or intended for small streets, and they don't work well for pedestrians or drivers in these locations.
While thinking about our statement on this, I tried out the PHB on Demonbreun Hill. Here's what I found:

1. There's a 45-second delay before it even acknowledges your existence. After that you get about 30 seconds to cross.

2. Two drivers ran straight through the solid red lights.
