Lady Sovereign - Public Warning
Make way for the S-O-Veeeeeee!
Honestly not everything hits but those that do - especially “Gatheration” and “Hoodie” - hit HARD.

Dragonette - Galore
Canadian dirty girl indie pop perfection. “Hello” ruined their trajectory IMO in that it turned them into the go-to guest for largely questionable acts, but they started out VERY strong.

Pop Levi - The Return To Form Black Magick Party
Our introduction to this indie pop chameleon; the uptempo numbers are VERY up, the ballads are hyper dramatic and it’s all fabulous.

School of Seven Bells - Alpinisms
I’m surprised I haven’t seen this one mentioned yet; the perfect intersection of shoegaze and dreampop, to say I was obsessed at the time is a wild understatement.

Die Monitr Batss - Girls of War
Brutal Neo-No Wave from the Gossip’s guitarist’s other (short lived) band. If you think ‘Confusion is Sex’ is Sonic Youth’s most underrated album, you’ll find plenty to like here.

To My Boy - Messages
If you told me this was a long-lost private press synthpop LP from 1982 I would 100% believe you. The usual topics of computers and the future throughout with the surprise beating heart exposure in “Fear of Fragility”; a stunner.

These New Puritans - Beat Pyramid
They quickly evolved into something completely different but I’ve always been enthralled by the raw energy and wide-eyed wonder of this debut.

Jakobínarína - The First Crusade
Sole album from Icelandic teenage rabble rousers. Searing indie punk grounded by Gunnar Bergmann Ragnarsson’s incredible growl, I love this one so much; it’s kind of perfect that it’s all we got.

Klaxons - Myths of the Near Future
I’ve seen this one mentioned a lot already. It has held up exceptionally well, especially considering it was a huge hype/next big thing record. Won’t make my Top 5 but still a total blast of a record.

The Whip - X Marks Destination
From the ashes of Nylon Pylon came The Whip. At the risk of gross oversimplification, this was closer to what I wanted the New Order albums of the time to sound like. Very likely in my Top 5, I love it lots.

The Boxer Rebellion - Exits
Darker and noisier than subsequent albums, there remains something special about this one. I realized I’ve never owned a physical copy of it, I should fix that.

Ladyfuzz - Kerfuffle
Only album from quirky trio who were friends with Bloc Party. I’ve always gotten B-52’s/Sugarcubes vibes from them - especially on incredible single “Bouncy Ball” - and am still sad we never got more.

Battles - Mirrored
The presence of John Stainer and the “Atlas” single roped me in and while I think it sags a bit in the middle, the album as a whole is a blast…one of my favorite sleeves as well.

Alphabeat - This Is Alphabeat
They give off a little too much theater kid energy at times, but the hyper pop of this album is undeniable; “Boyfriend” is one of my favorite singles of the era, such a jam.

A Place To Bury Strangers - A Place To Bury Strangers
First in queue for this round is our introduction to these NYC-based noise peddlers. All the hallmarks of their sound are here but I reach for second LP ‘Exploding Head’ when I’m in the mood.

Prince - P Control
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, boys and motherfucking girls.
A stormer for a Friday drive to work.

Horror Movie - @paultremblay.bsky.social
I started this yesterday and have been tearing through it over the last 24 hours; what a delectable love letter to the horror movies that raised us and still thrill us today.

Happy 40th to a cornerstone album for myself and many others; both incredibly of the time (of which is essentially created) and absolutely timeless. ❤️💜

Superdrag - Last Call For Vitriol
I recently learned they finally pressed this to LP late last year. My copy showed up last weekend but this is my first chance to give it a spin; I’m thrilled to have one of my favorite four album runs on vinyl at last.

Happy birthday to one of the greats. (Too bad about Bobby.)

Catherine Wheel - Happy Days
It’s too long by a bit for sure and gets kinda loopy in places but it’s far better than it ever gets credit for; I’ve always had a soft spot for it and, to be honest, listen to it more than ‘Chrome’. (One day we’ll get a CW reunion.)
