So now the UK Government wants biometric info to confirm my identity so that I can pay taxes from Argentina, and they needed documents from the last three months to do that. I had to get the bank to send me paper statements here, which took me over the deadline. And now, they are saying that...

I think there is something about the infancy of the medium, but with time, I came to realize it plays a little part VS the incestuousnes of endlessly retreading D&D/OSR shit.

Fighting games are decades younger and they have an amazing array of terminology, even an online, widely used glossary.
I think that's partially due to the infancy of the medium? Or at least its lack of academization. Many of the rules in music that we use to retroactively explain how it works were much wigglier in their day and style period to style period they changed, added new, or stopped using certain terms

I triple dare people fuck about with the Zephyr rules because

1. Most of them would have no fucking idea of the ramifications (hilarious)

2. I wanna see y'all tinker with something that ain't 2d6 goblin-ass bullshit
i'll go a step further and say that ideally, a tightly designed game *self-destructs* if you try to disregard some part of the rules. if a part of the rules is disregardable, the writer should have rewritten or cut it, and the game is shit

If this is the case, then what possible reason is there to drop 30 bucks on a 250 page PDF?

Like...

I'm buying the game because of the synergy between the premise and the text. If you can disregard the latter, then the former is fucking free

The pervasive, entrenched, and unexamined assumption that underpins huge swathes of the hobby to the effect of "nobody ever plays an RPG rules-as-written, if you do this you're a joyless deranged freak tyrant" feels very weird to me, as someone who has historically played most RPGs as-written

There’s an RPG theory called “RPG essentialism” which states that there’s one platonic ideal of RPG that all RPGs are striving to reach and this is such an incredibly silly theory.

It’s akin to imagining there’s one way to describe a tree that all poets who describe trees are striving for.

This week the Senate gave approval to Milei's labour reform, billed as "modernizing the workspace", which entails, you guessed it, actually scaling back labour rights to not just pre-Peronist rule but pre-Radicalism, so, we are poised to get 19th century labour law back in the menu. Stuff like...

This is sucks in how it frames the "human" as a form of accessing games in "open ended, rules-bendy" ways when so many actually find it frustrating to be told they shouldn't access games via rigid, mathematizable procedures.

As usual in this RPGs, only specific kinds of neurodivergence is tolerated

The trap of small games is that you compete with much more laboured, thought through games for people's free time.

Why would I play a one page TTRPG if I literally made more of an effort getting this table together.

You guys have to stop making games-as-posts. Microblogging is ruining your art.
I know it's meant in good faith but "if we just made smaller scope games and charged 20-40 dollars for them it would fix the industry" is very funny to me. indies release like 20 of those a week on steam. are you buying them? is the industry fixed? no? hm. sounds like you need a different solution
