Thank you, @bcmerchant.bsky.social, for giving translators a chance to speak their piece. I see a lot of replies and QRTs along the lines of "I'm glad I didn't finish my translation degree" or "This is all I know, am I really doomed?", so allow me to share a few thoughts:
Since 2023, translators and interpreters have seen work dry up, rates plummet and their jobs reduced to editing AI-generated output. Some are leaving the field, others are considering bankruptcy. All despite any major upgrade in translation quality.

This is how AI is killing translation work:
AI Killed My Job: Translators
Few industries have been hit by AI as hard as translation. Rates are plummeting. Work is drying up. Translators are considering abandoning the field, or bankruptcy. These are their stories.

I just uploaded this beautifully illustrated #Zelda children's book by Imamichi Eiji 1986. Mases & I had gotten smaller scans of this online years ago but my old scanner (& most) don't capture hot pink very well. Translation by @kotofeytilt.bsky.social

A extremely colorful and vibrant children's book cover. It has Link from the first Legend of Zelda game in the center, he's holding his sword and shield. Behind him are various bad guys and items from the game, including a horned, pig faced, Ganon who is dragging away Princess Zelda. She's reaching out for Link. There's is a bunch of Japanese text and the original Japanese logo on the cover too.

This #zelda 1 fairy is so stinkn' cute. I love her.

First time online. She's from the Famicom Champion, October 1986, scans I made- same as that Ganon piece I just posted.
A fairy from the original legend of Zelda. A magazine line drawing done in blue lines with some peach overlay as rough skin tone. She's adorable and wearing a one piece swimsuit.

Happy 39th anniversary to my favourite video game of all time, The Legend of Zelda!
This franchise gave me some of my favourite gaming experiences, led to meet lifelong friends, and motivated me to get better at art (to make fanart xD)
Here are some pieces I've made for the series.
