Time for a new introduction. I’m a science fiction author from Bristol in the UK. I’ve written over 20 published books, had my work translated into numerous languages, and won an award or two. I mainly post about books, writing, and my part-time job in a bookshop.

My daughter wants me to take her to IKEA after work. Wish me luck, and if you don’t hear from me by this time tomorrow, send a search party.

"An Asexual Succubus" is a short story about, yup, an asexual succubus! She gets her platonic nourishment running a monster pet store. But finding good owners for three-headed hellhounds is a hard business.

You can read it in @jendiagammon.bsky.social and @garethlpowell.bsky.social's anthology:

FUTURE’S EDGE by Gareth L. Powell – Review
The nitty-gritty: Epic in scope but somehow intimate as well, Future’s Edge is an end-of-the-world tale with heart and hope. “The fall of Earth was both sudden and protracted. Ships filled wi…

If you peek in my office today, you will see papers strewn all over my office floor, multiple spreadsheets open on the computer, and hear a tirade of swearing. Am I plotting out a new novel? No, I am updating my tax records for last year.

Thinking about Doctor Who today, a great idea for a story just popped into my head, so I'm scribbling it in my notebook in case of future need.

If you're celebrating #DoctorWhoDay today, I'll remind you that this year, I novelised an episode of the most recent series for BBC Books.

Keeping out the cold this evening with a hearty traditional fish pie. For those unfamiliar, it consists of chunks of cod, salmon, and smoked haddock (and a few prawns) in a cheese sauce, topped with mashed potato and baked in the oven for 45 mins.

As usual, I forgot to take any pictures at the event itself, so here’s a pre-game selfie taken just beforehand.

Horrible driving conditions today. The rain clouds were so low that they were touching the road in places, and the tarmac and sky blurred into one formless grey void of hammering rain, through which I could barely see the brake lights ahead.

I had a great time today with @annasmithwrites.bsky.social and @mikebrooks668.bsky.social at the British Fantasy Society event at Redditch Library. We had a great discussion, an appreciative audience, and I got to sign lots of books.
