When the #Blakes7 reboot got noted I was sceptical, “oh, here we go again.”

I was also pondering how books get optioned then drift off for all sorts of reasons.

@garethlpowell.bsky.social posted a really good summary of his experience just yesterday in fact 👇
A question I often get asked by writing students is, “How do I get my book made into a film?” So, here’s the basic process explaining the difference between selling the “option” on your book and selling the “rights.”

I enjoyed this week's Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. It felt like a TNG episode the way it wrestled with its central dilemma, which was also embodied within the character at the centre of the story. Great stuff!

Jitterbug by @garethlpowell.bsky.social is available March 3 from @titanbooks.bsky.social.

Oh my goodness, also, my blurb for it is on a bookmark!

"Jupiter and Saturn are gone, and a mysterious force has built a huge habitable sphere from their ashes."

Most writers need another income to supplement what they earn from their books. I'm fortunate that mine helps me with insights I wouldn't otherwise have.

Thank you!
Finished “Light of Impossible Stars” by @garethlpowell.bsky.social. My first time through the trilogy after finishing and loving “Embers of War” years ago. This book was everything. Nod is a particularly favorite character. Absolutely top notch sci-fi and this concluding volume nails it.

The harmonica on Chaka Khan’s ‘I Feel for You’ is possibly the most 1980s sound ever.

I’ve given in and finally ordered a new office chair. My old one had become like some sort of mediaeval torture device. Time to be comfortable while I write.

The world's on fire and it's hard to feel creative. But people need stories, just as they did during the Fall of Rome, the Black Death, and the Great War. The world needs writers. Keep going.

The world would be a considerably better place if more people spent time reading books, and my world would be a considerably better place if those books were mine 😉

This time last year, early copies of my novel FUTURE’S Edge were starting to appear on bookshop shelves. Thank you to everyone who has read, recommended, or reviewed it. And special thanks to those of you who’ve nominated it for an award or included it in a best of the year.

Opening up the bookshop on another rainy morning. Firing up the cappuccino machine and rousing the books from their slumber.

In bed, sipping chamomile tea and listening to the rain outside, and the occasional creak of the wooden shutters. Feels like I’m on a galleon a million miles from land.
