For an article; if you were Chevy what would you do
Surely #NHLJets Jonathan Toews being the most negative impact players in the entire league despite a 62% FO will make people finally realize that FOs are only a small fraction of the whole picture?

Right?!?

According to @naturalstattrick.com, Perfetti was on the ice for 0.29 xGF and 1 HDCF in 7min with his two periods of play before getting benched. Jets only managed 0.20 xGF and 1 more HDCF in the 18min of 5v5 play in the 3rd period down by a goal.
It appears Cole Perfetti has been benched by #NHLJets coach Scott Arniel. He took penalty near end of the 2nd, came out of the box early in 3rd, was on the ice for 9 seconds and that was it.

It could be worse Jets fans

And that Fleury and Schenn are much worse.
This game reminds us how, while Stanley's scoring has been fun, he's still not a very good defenseman.

This COL team seems good at ZEFR. Wonder if they know about that?

This is a deep cut, hockey analytics reference.

What was particularly galling is that Bednar said Winnipeg's slow defence and difficulty retrieving the puck was a point of emphasis for the Avs. NHL coaches aren't perfect in terms of roster selection, but if they tell you "hey, we knew we could pick on that", it's not a bad idea to believe them.
Remember when #NHLJets couldn't keep up to the smaller and faster COL team and so the strategy (and cries from many fans) was to get bigger and slower.

Shocking that the #NHLJets lost scoring thinking they could combine a bunch of slow, 30++ year olds to make up lost scoring.

Note1: This ignores significant aging curve effects

Note2: I've highlighted the range between median 2nd line & 1st line scoring

Also a combined cap hit of $7.35M.

($7.9M in 3 more games with another GP bonus for Toews)
Fun fact: The #NHLJets fourth line tonight of Pearson-Toews-Nyquist will be a combined 106 years old and with 2,736 combined NHL games of experience.

I'm simultaneously too negative about the team, but I'm also saying that with Hellebuyck the Jets are still more likely than not to sneak into the WC slots despite being below the line right now.

My recap slowly devolved into a rant on organizational beliefs and roster construction...

#NHLJets blanked 1–0 by St. Louis as underlying issues persist. Shot quality, deployment decisions, and roster philosophy all under the microscope in Game 33 ⬇️

How impactful has Hellebuyck been on the Winnipeg Jets records since he's entered the league?

Well, @evolvinghockey.bsky.social's xGAR model puts Scheifele as the most impactful #NHLJets 2.0 skater at 163 goals above replacement.

Hellebuyck is worth nearly double that in 2 fewer seasons.

Not Jets related, but people are going to see the jump in Nylander's scoring this season and understand that usage is a huge factor in scoring right??? right??

Logan Stanley averages a scoring chance contribution every 120 mins of h 5v5 hockey.
He has two this period.

My general opinion on NHL coaches: they are experts at knowing what matters and who is best at that.

I also believe that due to being merely human and not machines they fall to biases, improperly weight tradeoffs of different factors, and miss the forest for the trees.

Analyzing coaching decisions is a top-tier part of analytics for me.

Fascinating to see a coach trust Depth Defender A more on the ice, yet still feel compelled to dress Depth Defender B over them because of some internal narrative.
#NHLJets were inches away from two points, but settle for one in an OT loss to Ottawa. Stronger 5v5 play, continued not hitting the net issues, and one puzzling deployment decisions.

Yup.

Far back in 2015/16 I was saying in junior he was being deployed and groomed as a defensive defender due to his size and his skillsets were exactly the opposite.
You beat the horse back when he was a prospect that from the offensive blue line in was his sweet spot. I can’t convince any boomer Jets fan that the dude is actually an offensive defenceman.

How many goals does Stanley score this season?
December 16, 2025 at 2:10 AM
LOLOLOL
Day #51238941293 of me pointing out that Stanley is worse defensively than many blame him for, but also much better offensively than many give him credit for.
