Jack Smith's deposition must be bigger news

"There is no historical analog for what..Trump did..[H]e was free to say he thought he won..He was even free to say falsely that he won..But..he was not free to..violate federal law and use knowingly false statements..to target lawful government function"

Sherrilyn Ifill’s @sifill.bsky.social latest is a must read.
“I believe that our opponents are on the decline. … That is because cruelty and hate is not a belief system. It is an exhale, a howl of pain, of insecurity, of spiritual emptiness, and of arrested development.”

In case you were wondering, Jack Smith's testimony was the *opposite* of "total exoneration."

On Jack Smith deposition, now released:

100% obvious why GOP refused to allow this as open testimony, aired live. It's damning.

Testimony from John Dean or Alex ("wiretaps") Butterfield in Watergate days would have 1/10th the impact if just in print.

What Smith says is far more incriminating.

The top 10% of richest Americans own 87% of stocks.

The top 1% alone own roughly half of all stocks.

It's worth pointing out once again that the stock market is not the economy.

Smith: He was getting calls from people he trusts, people he relies on—and he still refused to come to the aid of the people at the Capitol. That’s very important evidence for criminal intent in our case.

Revisiting this — still true:
I’ve been in a room with Putin. He calls Ukrainians “Russians with accents.” His real fear isn’t NATO expansion, it’s democracy expansion. It shatters his entire argument for dictatorship at home. Because if Ukrainians embrace freedom, Russians may demand the same.

Speaking as someone who just wrote a book on the Manhattan Project, I can assure you that refugee immigrants were the *entire* reason the US mastered the atom first. The most chilling part of writing my book was reading about them fleeing fascism … abroad. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/fleeing-on...

America has 925 billionaires as of this year. Collectively they have a record $6.9 trillion in wealth.

The bottom 50% of Americans control $4.2 trillion in wealth.

When 925 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

That’s where the culture wars come in handy. Distract people with fear so that they tolerate the money grab from tax policies that favor the wealthy and deregulation of consumer protections.

There's a lot of focus on how the dripping antisemitism on the right has created a useful rupture in various parts of Trump's support, and that's true.

But I really worry that EVEN those on the less hateful side of that split are ignoring how dangerous some of these terrorists are.
