Funny how many people support "neighborhood greenways" but not "bike boulevards" -- even though they're exactly the same thing.

Hey Edmonton-based Bluesky friends.

Do you care about how walk-/bike-friendly 76 Avenue is, between the ravine and 99 street?

If so, you are invited to meet me and some like-minded friends at 2:30 tomorrow at Bent Stick brewing to help formulate a response the city's proposed new design. DM me!

There was enough to say about #yeg's $100M #ActiveTransportation network expansion that I needed a second video. I cover what hadn't been quite finished by mid-Nov and what was postponed.

Does anyone have pictures of bike lanes that have been intentionally sabotaged by unhappy residents?

For example, leaves have been raked into Delton's bike lanes, snow has been piled up in the 103 Ave temporary bike lanes, and 83 Ave has also been impacted.

Show us what you've seen, #yegbke!

Anyone look at the 76Ave plan?

No to SUPs! Why is SUP the only option further east?

I don't see WHY the one-way bike lanes cannot go the whole way.

Anything special about the lights at 96St? Bikes have to transition twice when two-way bike lane becomes one-way.

Edmonton released its Fall 2025 budget. There are some small steps forward for transit & active transportation.

But if you read deeper, the documents tell a much harder truth:
✖️ Failing on climate.
✖️ Failing on mode shift.
✖️ Failing on traffic safety.

Construction has largely wrapped up on 2 Ave & 7 Ave NW streetscape project, but the wheeling lanes have been barricaded as we wait for the City to install signage. Apparently it’s a liability concern and they won’t get around to it until sometime next year.

Listening to Speaking Municipally this week and discussion regarding resident flagging problem spots to the City to fix regarding pedestrian safety.

Does anyone remember the Safe Streets Map? It was an interactive map that you could drop pins where there was bad spots. Maybe that gets revived?

GIS nerds, has anyone mapped the protected bike lane network against these results to see how closely they match? Bike lane density vs. votes for Knack, by neighbourhood for example?
@geodarcy.bsky.social
Based on this map from r/edmonton Knack won every neighbourhood with a protected on street bike lane. #yegbike

"no one with a disability, injury, age related changes, or small children is going to not use a car. Those groups all need clear streets and access to good parking close to their destination. "

Eco stations should have an active travel entrance. As a smug cyclist, I don’t want to stand amongst the idling truck bros for 15+ mins just to drop off two bags of yard waste.

In Edmonton too, city council candidates who opposed or down-played city-wide bike infrastructure, were not-elected - except one. We're inviting #KarenPrincipe (she, who invited the Prov Minister of Transportation to interfere in Municipal jurisdiction) to join us on a bike ride. #yegbike

Puts us at just over 21,000km across all the bikes since initially going #carfree in June 2022 and being #carlite for about 9 months

For anyone keeping track, the City of Edmonton updated the GIS data for the active transportation network acceleration. 107Ave is coloured as if it'll be built in 2027 but the attribute data still say 2026.
