It was added with the wii version also the wii version added a bunch of skips and sequence breaks you can do due to the pointer being slightly longer than in GC (i.e. getting to the snakes in Forest of Hope before getting blues)

Afaik XBC3 bucks this trend so it doesn't have a weird ass game genre blend to fall behind but its also more sober with its system ideas compared to the others

XBC2 being like a gacha game is kinda a continuation of the XBC1 is like an MMO design trend, where strange and questionable gameplay decisions can be answered by the game being made from that genre blueprint in mind

2XKO is not really in position to innovate that much cause they gotta first go through the classic archetypes and rising thunder characters. Plus its stuck in league character hell for the most part. Its gonna take 50 characters like it took smash in order to get the stranger stuff

I'm not 100% sure full circle motion stuff could ever translate into simple inputs but charge could with just a little innovation but then again the input method pushes you away from that kind of innovation

Like there's no reason you couldn't make a guy with just 2 specials like Guile in a simple input game but then youd be leaving 2 special inputs unused like thats free real estate

I don't think simple inputs limit design as much as it railroads it and makes it formulaic. They could be making cool and interesting stuff but the format doesn't incentivise it
