As a manager who TRULY cares about work-life balance, I routinely encourage my folks to add an explicit goal for their annual performance review about improving work-life balance. This way, they actually get rewarded for it, and it’s something we have a focused discussion on throughout the year.

When I was in elementary school I asked my teacher why trees never learned to walk and she said “because they didn’t need to” and that’s a great answer but it’s not the whole answer but I feel like I’d need a full book-length project to answer it.
