We returned to sections of the riverbank that we hadn't searched for a while, and most of it was under water, but after a little wade about up popped these beauties. The river provides.

Found some lovely little Woodland Inkcaps inside a hollow in a tree trunk.

More shrooms. I like ones that cascade...

It's lovely to see the pink of the Rosy Bonnets and the gold of The Blusher.

I like the French name for these black ones... Trompette des morts (Horn of Plenty here in the UK, Craterellus cornucopioides).

We saw so many shrooms yesterday... More in one go than we've seen for the past few years. So, I'll split them up into separate posts (not in any particular order).

Porcelain fungus (Oudemansiella mucida), a glistening (on account of the mucous), translucent, white beauty that has a very appropriate name. Encountered growing all over the place during yesterday's ramble, and it was a new one for us. Absolutely stunning.
Porcelain fungus, growing out of a fallen tree trunk, shown from underneath to display the gills.

We seem to have reached the ‘portraying the KKK in a negative light is controversial’ stage already.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

Which is why no matter what happens, no matter how much they pull down and destroy to create their idea of the 'perfect' world, they will never be happy. Their 'perfect' world, if they could achieve it, would disappoint them; they'd tear it all down again. For ever.

Lords Heseltine & Kinnock seem more alive to these self-evident truths than most members of the Commons. Similarly, I find thinkers with direct lived experience of far right dictatorship, Greeks of a certain age for example, crystal clear about what’s happening now.

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

A few photos from Monday's walk. It was a really lovely day. After days of strong winds, it was nice to go out and not have your head blown off.

Shrooms from yesterday's walkabout.

Sherds! We've had rain, and the river level is higher, so there's even less bank to search, and yet these little beauties keep on popping up.
