Your reminder that no matter what, Dem AGs will ensure elections are free and fair this November.

Important context that Dems have been terrible on messaging with, thus few ppl seem to know: ICE was going to get funding no matter what due to BBB, passed in April w/0 Dem votes & under reconciliation so not subject to filibuster. And would get $ even if shut down. Highly recommend Jay’s article.
“Folks, I made an error in a piece I wrote the other day. It’s a bit wonky, but it’s important to set the record straight.” - Jay Kuo

ICE gets $75 billion in the “OBBB” from last year regardless.
mini-bus puts $$ for TSA, FEMA, & Coast Guard, tied to ICE $$. but included are guardrails.

-Cancel and Replace ICE-

For those who say it can’t be done, it’s BEEN done with this very agency.

A personal INS/ICE history 🧵.

My dad was a federal agent for the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), the United States’ prior immigration agency.

I’m done with politicians and pundits on cable news telling us some version of, ICE would be fine if they just followed the rules and procedures.

THEY’RE FOLLOWING ORDERS‼️

I just dropped a piece on why “defund ICE” misses the point. Hear me out…

This is best phrase I’ve heard yet for what people want to accomplish. It leaves less room for GOP to weaponize against Dems b/c they absolutely will do that w/“abolish” & it’s stronger than “reform” & it cleverly turns GOP “repeal & replace“ language re: ACA against itself. This gets my vote.
objective fact: "abolish ICE" is a rhetorical sinkhole

"repeal and replace ICE" (or some such) is what one says if you want to effectuate change against anticipated resistance

if one wants to do something else, then of course, say whatever you want!

A month before Renee Good, there was Susan Tincher, 1st named plaintiff in today’s ruling. She stands for so many courageous ppl in MN right now. Her story is familiar in its shocking horror, w/addition of haunting detail: ICE cut off her wedding ring. B/c she was protecting her neighbors.
One of the best things that people like Susan Tincher (and like me) can do is absorb the violence of the state that is directed at our more vulnerable neighbors, and then be righteously pissed off about it.

The case is Tincher v. Noem.

So much this.
If all you're willing to do is say "We're cooked" on a social media site, maybe it is all over.

If you're willing to struggle alongside your friends and neighbors for democracy, then we've got a chance.

Very good article. I wish Dem messaging was better. Ppl have been criticizing Dems for supporting appropriations bills w/o noting that Dems have worked thru these bills to restore $$ to programs that admin cut & reduce some damage of BBB. Explains where they have leverage on ICE funding.
Democrats have more leverage to put important breaks on ICE, including its funding, than most people understand. I explain what they can do, and why they should do it now, in today’s piece, link in the replies.

Absolutely bonkers, insane, disturbing, incompetent. And very important to read. Thank you @laurajedeed.bsky.social for this.
A few months ago, ICE hired me

I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable

And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!"

A Black man was killed by ICE (off duty) in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. And like Renée Good, he was an American citizen. But most people have not heard about Keith Porter.

I need y’all to realize this. Black people experience this lack of visibility all the time when it comes to being victims.

Re: prior car incident: “Before returning to duty, Ross would have needed medical clearance, two ICE officials told me. But he would not have been required to undergo a psychological evaluation, they said, and he would have been able to self-certify his readiness to get back on the job.“ Chilling.

ME: Someone *finally* asked about the percentages! And it was Fox!

ALSO ME: What in the freaking universe of math/space/time conundrums is he talking about? 87% is right answer, Howard. You know it, interviewer knows it, we know it. Should’ve shut up then. Also no one believes that number either.
FOX: If you cut something by 100%, the cost goes down to 0. If you cut it by 600%, the drug companies are actually paying you

LUTNICK: What he's saying is if a drug was $100 and you bring it down to $13, it's down 7 times

F: Not a 600% cut

L: But it's 700% higher price before. It's down 700% now
