In this 1933 photo, the newly-constructed Empire State Building looms over the 19th-century buildings in Midtown Manhattan. The 102-story Art Deco skyscraper was designed by Shreve, Lamb & Harmon and completed in 1931. This picture shows Fifth Avenue looking South.

So much of Thanksgiving happens long before any of us sit down at the table. Long before the turkey hits the oven or the pie is sliced, immigrant farmworkers and meatpacking workers have already put in the labor that makes these traditions possible.

I am disappointed in myself that it's taken me so long to get round to watching THE THIN MAN. that's an instant favourite right there. Two charming people drink too many cocktails, make out, crack terrible jokes at each other, and solve crimes? Honestly a perfect movie.
