Nearly-perfect printed and handwritten text recognition is the most consequential technical contribution to the study of human culture of the last fifteen years, and it's not even close.

It fundamentally changes our (both lay and expert) relationship with the written past.

I am disappointed in myself that it's taken me so long to get round to watching THE THIN MAN. that's an instant favourite right there. Two charming people drink too many cocktails, make out, crack terrible jokes at each other, and solve crimes? Honestly a perfect movie.

Home Depot could implement a policy requiring ICE to present a judicial warrant before operating on its property. Businesses are fully within their rights to decide who is allowed on their premises.

Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

Is it even realistic for fields to require a book for tenure?
