People say the sixties ended at the Altamont festival in 1969 with its chaos, violence and death, but I would argue it was when The Flowerbuds played that gig in Farmer Giles' field

Just flipped open the Kenneth Williams Diaries. In April 1972 he went to see Dirty Harry at the cinema. I expected Ken to think it 'a disgrace', but no:
"It was v. good indeed... One man tries to do his job properly and, when he does it for the last time under Promethean provocation, he resigns..."
