This essay is about contentious films, imperfection and the importance of direct action. It's also about Basket Case 2 which, I went in expecting to hate considering I'm ambivalent about the first, and I ended up loving it, and, Freaks, which I love despite it's confused execution.

Really good of my uni tutor, on a dedicated distance learning course, to just be entirely uncontactable for the past 3 weeks leading into this essay I'm writing that has really unclear directions. Way to go! Super great!

Gotta say, Fake Documentary Q is shaping up slowly and horribly in a very good way. I'm still not sure how much is connected or even if it is but that's no bad thing and it seems to be something Japanese horror is really good at. And it doesn't outstay it's welcome either.

Join us tonight at 6pm Pacific/9pm Eastern for a YouTube Premiere of @frankcifaldi.bsky.social's impassioned, energetic talk about the state of video game preservation. This was previously for GDC attendees only, but has been unlocked for all. We'll be in chat! youtu.be/_00AjQNjgDk?...

I strongly encourage everyone to steal from Spotify and support artists elsewhere by buying CDs, digital copies and merchandise and would like to say there's several batch fixes on GitHub to remove ads etc that I've used without issue for years now.

Booked tickets to see Peaches next year, I'm excited to see my favourite hot old (she's not that old) lady live.

I remember, and this was about 5 years ago now, when I was with a girl and about to start studying, and when I told her I was excited her first inclination was to tell me she had ways to pad out sentences and puff things out for the word count and I was just like. No, I enjoy the challenge.

You know, as someone who's had insomnia basically as long as they've had mental illnesses and had disordered sleep before that, I don't think I'll ever get used to just how fucking irritating insomnia is. I have plans! I have things to do! Being in a fugue state is not one of them!

Anyone here familiar enough with Tennyson and or Greek mythology to help me edit a poem for uni?

We were told to rewrite Tithonus in the voice of the Goddess who grants him immortality and I just wanna make sure it scans well.

One of the small joys in life is the look my cat gives me when I come to bed and he's there waiting to be put in my lap.

Second only to the look he gives me when I stroke the guinea pigs instead of him. He really does look betrayed as though I haven't turned on the electric blanket for his sake.

Think my next fiction dude to read is Stefan Grabinski, who I've heard is underrated. Haunted railway station is something that isn't done enough.

'you can generate a different ending every time you view a movie!'

'you can have endless text conversations with NPCs in games!'

'you can summarize a novel, you don't have to read it!'

the pitches for genAI really reveal how much the people behind it just... hate art.

like. *hate* art. deeply.

Share your knowledge if/when you can. Teaching other people how to do what you do doesn’t lessen your art - it just means more and better art for everyone.

I appreciate when people are willing to tell me about their brushes, how they study, etc… I want to put that back out into the world.

I ordered one of those random, like "vintage assortments!" for my scrapbook/journalling, and in between all of the cut-out bits of original prints of Rupert (which... oh, my heart), there was a postcard from West Hill Royal Hospital and Ward for Incurables, and it's been on my mind ever since.

Obviously nowhere near done but I'm liking how dithering softens shadows and creates shapes. Turns out, reinventing the wheel is good, actually.
