Leicester writer of were-squids, space moths and the odd Doctor Who short story. I talk about video games, 80s Who and Ancient Rome/Pompeii stuff. Big fan of hypocausts.

I woke up stressed this morning, so I bought some books. Now I'm still stressed, but I have books!

(1st edition of an 1830 Pompeii novel, and another copy of Slave Girl of Pompeii so I can read the missing page! After avoiding the big sites, I had my own black friday all by myself... oops.)

On 27th August 2015, I finished writing a story about space moths. It was for an upcoming charity anthology on the theme of "carers and sci-fi", and what started as a small idea grew into nearly 5000 words about a young scientist who befriended a race of alien moths and saved her desert planet from crop failure. I was very proud of it.

Counting down to the release of Sarah Jane Smith: Roving Reporter II from Pencil Tip Publishing with some favourite clips of Sarah Jane from her original run of adventures! From the moment she walks into the Doctor's life, you know she's going to be special.

The Pompeii collection is growing. Hoping to add some more 1800-1899 era books to this shelf soon - there is some Obscure stuff if you dig deep enough!

Writing keeps bringing me new hobbies. I tried blueberry tea to help me write a fanfic, now I have a cupboard full of herbals. I needed a Roman god for a story, now I love Ancient Rome. And today I've started making soups because I have a character with Strong Opinions on soup.

Just acquired a 135-year-old novel set in Pompeii because no one else bid on it and I am Hyped. It's not available to read anywhere online! I'd like to look into getting it on Project Gutenberg later down the line. It's going next to Robert Harris' Pompeii novel... I may have started a collection.

I was supposed to be writing this afternoon, but then I found a ton of stuff to add to my Spreadsheet for a possible Big Project and now I'm looking up how to make word clouds and pivot charts. Productive procrastination, I guess. Damn I love spreadsheets.

Salve! Thrilled to be commencing a beginner's Latin course next month. Time to start reading up... (I believe "I learn" in Latin is "ego disco" which would be an amazing band name.)

Figured out how to hide images on my browser, so I can look up gross stuff on Wikipedia without images of said stuff. Pleased that I can now research without potential jumpscares!

Some photos from @jewrywallroman.bsky.social today. Thrilled to finally visit and take in some local Roman history!

The Time Warrior is slowly becoming one of my fav eps of Who. Irongron is great, as is his uneasy alliance with Lynx. Plus the wonderful Sarah Jane, some fun fight sequences and nice period costumes. It's become my go-to cosy watch.

Walked down the Glenfield Tunnel and rode the mini railway! Run by the Leicestershire Industrial History Society, who also produced some books on the local railways. Great fun!

The other day I spent hours researching Ancient Roman hypocausts. Today I'm in Chester and there are THREE within 10 minute walk of each other! Utterly delighted.

After reading Project Hail Mary multiple times, I'm listening to the audiobook. There's something comforting about experiencing a book you love in a different way, and the narration is good. Can't wait for the movie next year!

It's rosy maple moth season in Virginia!! My favorite time of year! Can you believe we get to share a universe with this amazing species? It's like pink lemonade had a baby with a muppet.
