Coercion in adventure therapy - Conference workshop

My accepted abstract for the 10th International Adventure Therapy conference in Taiwan

We will discuss the slippery slope of coercive practice and question whether academics who accept/enable human rights violations should present at conferences
How beliefs lead to harmful outdoor practice

This just topped 1000 reads. Yay!

How did tough love kill a child in an outdoor program?

Why was the program accredited?

How does this relate to far-right ideas?

Open access, easy to read, challenging content.

Gina's Coalition

One person, who can only amass votes for her political stooges through disinformation....which is why the Senate is investigating disinformation in renewables lobbying

She has lots of money. Why is she doing this? Over-extended?

FFS @albomp.bsky.social just ban gambling advertising like we did for tobacco. Sports and media organisations all survived that.

You have the support of an overwhelming number of Australians. Or is that not who you represent? 🤔

There is zero doubt that racism is a key tool of the far right of Australian politics

If we will not prohibit this in the Senate, how will it be eliminated in our suburbs, schools and workplaces?

We should move now, to eliminate hate acts and (while at it) disinformation

The line is crossed

Quite a list of Australian far right people and organisations

They should be monitored and shut down if they stray into hate speech or disinformation

This is how you do it

Financially strangling neo nazi's
While federal and state governments, police and national security agencies grapple with how to respond to the National Socialist Network, several financial institutions and service providers have acted independently to restrict the flow of funds to the white supremacy group.

One of the problematic things about putting kids/teens in the mental health system is that they likely internalize the coercive elements of that system. They start to think “I have to obey these people on many levels or else I could get locked up.”

In academia, misinfo, once exposed as untrue, becomes disinfo if not retracted

Flat earth, white swans, bad humours, thalidomide

... coercion and abuse as psychological treatment

All exposed as wrong

The last not retracted by my US wilderness therapy colleagues

Deporting Nazi's is a good idea

Banning far right extremist organisations and their social media would also be a good idea

There were 93 homicides in London last year: population 9 million

In New York - population 8.5 million - there were
391.

London's homicide figure is 6 times lower than LA, 9 times lower than Miami, 17 times lower than Chicago.

And it's falling year on year despite the population increasing

A 35-year-old Republican congressman high on cocaine paid a homeless 17-year-old girl $400 to have sex with him while she was under the influence of drugs and alcohol. That’s statutory rape.

But Trump nominated the congressman, Matt Gaetz, to be Attorney General of the United States.

What should be the most serious, urgent talks on the planet continue to be a farce.

With no known cause for diagnoses I suggest adversity (not just poverty), and maybe changed situations as curative

This week a BSKY chat immediately went to 'anti-psychiatry', dismissal, one even bullying

If we cannot talk, things won't change

"We don't want to deter people from getting help - but why would you admit yourself to a public mental health ward if you stood a 50 per cent chance of having your rights taken away? I sure as hell wouldn't."

Over 90% turn out to vote since 1924

Idea for the Post Trump Renaissance!
The first Australian election with compulsory voting was held, successfully increasing voter turnout.

The participation at Australian elections has never fallen below 90% since the introduction of compulsory voting in 1924, making Australia a fairer and more democratic country.

Ditto with the ABC in Australia.

Our ABC has bent over backwards so far to appease right wing politicians and media that it’s now pretzel shaped rather than the famous lissajous logo. Tied in knots.
Let's stop pretending that the billionaire media, endlessly attacking the BBC, has the slightest interest in balance, impartiality and accuracy. They won't be happy until the BBC is more rightwing than Vlad the Impaler. And then it still won't be enough.
