Excellent piece from @mmasnick.bsky.social - based on the scoop by @cameronwilson.bsky.social @crikey.com.au .

The bottom line: 'policy development' in Australia is far too often based on vested interests, with evidence not even getting a look in. #auspol

This was really interesting.
It is intensely funny to me that tech bro CEOs on an annual salary of 15 petabillion dollars think data centres can go in space because it's very cold but actually they would get obscenely hot because heat won't radiate into the vacuum of space

Yes. Tho impractical to implement all at once. Ppl definitely don't need 5 properties, as one of the owners in my block has, nor 11 like the investor who kept beating my son out of a home. Yes, rental properties are owned by investors but 50 yrs ago, investors owned 1 or 2 & ppl cld afford to rent.

It is now clear when Albo said "no-one left behind", he really meant:
- the gambling industry
- big media
- fossil fuel lobby
- for-profit childcare corporations
- aged care companies
- employment service providers
- property developers...

But Australians with the greatest needs? Yeah nah. #auspol
Gambling ruins lives. It is absolutely unacceptable that the Albanese government will continue to choose vested interests over the wellbeing of Australians and hide behind a watered-down policy - if they ever introduce one. We need action on gambling harms now.
