🧵/ Labour members would choose Andy Burnham over Keir Starmer, if given the chance, but tend to think Starmer should lead Labour into the next general election

Andy Burnham: 62%
Keir Starmer: 29%

Starmer should stay: 53%
Starmer should leave before next election: 37%

It’s about how I do history and what I find out

It’s accessible and at times entertaining

Very happy to repeat it for a more public and broader audience. If anyone interested get in touch

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again.

Ignore the haters, London is the 🐐
Graphic with the headline “London is the greatest city in the world” set against a bright view of the River Thames with the Shard, Tower Bridge and the city skyline.

The text celebrates what makes London special: regularly voted the number one city in the world, incredible diversity with over 300 languages spoken, world-class transport, world leader in finance tech and life sciences, best museums and galleries many free to visit, world-leading nightlife, food sport and music for every taste, host to the world’s best sporting events, home to seven Premier League clubs, globally-ranked universities, a city where you can be yourself and love who you love, and a place for everyone.

Most of the Telegraph's columnists these days are a little too, how shall I put it, savoury for my liking, but Ambrose Evans-Pritchard is consistently worth reading. This piece on China and fusion energy is great

Privileged to have written Dickie Bird’s obituary for The Guardian. An eccentric innocent treasured by so many. Every time I met him it was an invitation to rediscover my inner child.

As the piece points out, I don’t think many people realise or think about what might happen to their images, or what they’ve agreed to in the small print

Very interesting revelation in
@kitty-donaldson.bsky.social's evening newsletter:

Andrew Gwynne, one of the MPs rumoured to be thinking of standing down to make way for Andy Burnham, has applied to the Commons authorities to retire on medical grounds.

Another very strange thing about this pic is that the keeper isn't wearing gloves

David Harvey being beaten by a penalty at Highbury in 1971. I love these high resolution crowd shots where you can see every face behind the goal. Imagine that nowadays, the sea of faces replaced by a stand full of mobile phone screens…

The 49ers-led syndicate of rich folk who own Leeds United had a whip-round this summer to raise £120m for players/home improvements. To persuade everyone to chip in, the 49ers made a 50-slide pitch deck that set out their grand vision. One found its way to me.

Holiday snap of sign on Suffolk church door. Can’t help thinking it would have been fine if it had just ended with the word “church”

Very true. Also I think it’s fair to point out that middle-aged people are those most likely to pay for news journalism as well. Not such an easy circle to break
