Thinking about it, the original Deus Ex may be the king of choice in a game with a story, because your choices are significant, linked to gameplay and unforced. From the very start, for instance, whether you use or avoid lethal force against the “terrorists” determines something about you.

It's also fair to say that stove touching to the level of 'insurance premiums in the thousands' is too much collateral damage, folks will either go broke or go without insurance. Maximum damage isn't needed, just enough to keep them deeply pissed off at the admin (which we have and then some)

I can't find a transcript, but Ta-Nehisi Coates had a good point imho the other day about like, not expecting your lifetime to be the good one and not fretting when it isn't. Something like that. How his ancestors weren't failures for not changing the world. (Heavily paraphrasing here.)
