My small town had over 300 people come out. My next door neighbor was visiting family and joined a separate event with 150 people. These smaller events across rural America are often not counted but they add up.
Our food bank has been having challenges buying food since the DOGE cuts. In 2026, we will no longer get near date food from Walmart. The BBBA changed the tax deduction rules making it more cost effective to toss tens of thousands of pounds of food. Our community is helping, but it’s not sustainable
Sorry for multiple replies. Look into the 1% charitable deduction floor in the BBBA passed this year
It falls under the 1% charitable deduction floor, of the BBBA, which will go into effect in 2026. It is written to include in-kind donations like food. If the food cost is less than 1% of the company’s taxable income they can’t get the deduction. If they toss it they can claim it as a loss.
There is a story in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, The food rescue program helps by providing meats and prepared food items. We have many clients with no access to a kitchen. It’s getting harder to stock the shelves. The bright spot is our small community is coming together to help each other.
It was a discussion topic at the recent food shelf board meeting. Walmart has already started pulling back on donations in rural MN. I will try to find an article that is not behind a paywall
This administration has also gutted funding for organizations selling discounted products to the food shelves. Effective January corporations who donate near dated food to the food shelf will lose the tax credit. I will be cheaper for companies like Walmart to toss the food than to donate it.
I can be concerned about people feeding their families AND the president being for sale.
Yes, we don’t know where it’s coming from or what’s expected in return. I keep seeing it’s 130M. That seems like a lot of money but that equates to under $100 for each active duty service member. It’s a stunt.
Happy caturday. I going to spend some time snuggling with these two. Embrace moments of joy whenever you find them.
My first vote ever was for him.
Corruption and a bs publicly stunt. That’s not enough to cover the payroll. It equates to about $100/person.
I had loads of cherry tomatoes but that equated to a couple of salads or one jar of sauce.
Big talk from someone who’s been MIA in his own district. The couple standing next to me yesterday were his constituents. Maybe he should consider talking to them.
We had 300 turn out in our small Midwest town.
Over 300 showed up in our rural mid-west town.
Stay safe out there. I’m in rural America. We have been seeing a shift in response to our weekly protests. More 👍🏻 than 🖕🏻now. The devoted Trumpers are still loud but we are seeing fewer of them.
I learned about this last weekend. This
Friend trolls maga. Go ahead and over react about it. We protest the administration every week.
Challenge accepted. Preparing my weekly protest signs brings me joy. Making an extra large sign for Saturday
My babies are going to be safety monitors on Saturday. They will be fine but don’t mess with the momma bear!!!!!!!!! My husband and I will be there to support them.
Well you know we’re all paid. I have a friend who tells MAGA that she’s making hundreds a week and they should join her. It’s working and is a bit funny when they don’t get paid.
Chicago is not within 100 miles of the border. Fight this!!!!!!!
My entire family will be there.
