OOOOHH

Having already heard you teach a couple of times (not trying to be creepy, I was just fortunate enough to be part of a few class trips to your library!) that sounds incredible

Do you know what kind of attendance/response the exhibit is getting at all?
hannahstohelit.bsky.social
Oh interesting, I wonder who that is! I don’t think I’m available at any tour times but I want to take one, this is the kind of exhibit where a really good tour guide would change my life
hannahstohelit.bsky.social
Omggg didn’t even think of that
Amazing

ACTUALLY it looks like they’re now open on limited Sundays?! I wonder if they got requests, which would make sense given the subject matter- I will need to pass this along!
mmargolis.bsky.social
BUT note that it will NOT be open on Sunday. So your options for ch"m are today or tomorrow...

I may be registered for the virtual version of this already actually- looks super cool!
hannahstohelit.bsky.social
Honestly insane in mindblowingly cool documents per square foot, and also better for free than lots of other (perfectly good) exhibits I’ve paid for
hannahstohelit.bsky.social
Wasn’t it great?! So glad you got to see it!
hannahstohelit.bsky.social
Wait he’s anti-bris?! If this is The Moment I will DIEEE

When I was a kid we were out of the house by seven thirty wherever we were going
We’d go to the Bronx Zoo on chol hamoed for free Wednesday once (!!!) and we were leaving as the first other visibly Jewish families were entering
Excellent parenting

Yes!! Also only open during typical workday hours which can make it challenging!

@delafina777.bsky.social can you share about how the confidence score is used/interpreted on your end?
hannahstohelit.bsky.social
Done and got 3/3 (2 AI, one human). It’s interesting how I felt pretty confident, and ended up being right, that there were some ways only a human could/would write, both for good and ill. This will sound bad but one of the “human” pieces would prob have been better “by” AI- smoothing out flaws.

Just FYI- whether for ch"m trip planning purposes or any others, know that the Grolier Club/JTS manuscript exhibit is one of the coolest things I have ever gotten to see, whether on my lunch break or at any other time. Thanks @mmargolis.bsky.social for the tip- everyone should go (& it's free)!

American Jew- I'm familiar with the phrase but almost definitely from reading about it or possibly hearing it in movie dialogue, don't think I ever heard it in real life.
I grew up with a LOT of Yinglish and never heard it, and DO read a lot of old British mystery novels lol.

A family member was once redt a shidduch with someone with the last name Katz. A very common, unobjectionable last name, but not to someone named Fraidy...

I read a Mitford Sisters book that described Diana's Holocaust denial (she believed it happened but not that 6 million Jews were killed) as a sign of her integrity- that she acknowledged the truth but only on her terms...
At that point I was like "what are we doing here"

Any more info on the Wimsey/Holmes paper? Watsonian or Doylist? (I ask as I’ve been informally writing up a fun Watsonian theory that someone else MUST have thought up first at some point and am very curious about other writing on the subject)
hannahstohelit.bsky.social
No- he's now doing a 45 minute special each year, and while 2023 and 2025 were regular sketch shows, 2024 was a series of connected vignettes about a fictional rural village! I thought it was cute but didn't have the same attachment to it that I had to S9 or the regular sketch series.
hannahstohelit.bsky.social
You mention John Finnemore below and he knew, when he did a COVID-set JFSP series, that it needed to be narrative and with a different way of telling jokes because of the lack of a live audience. Ironically I actually think his 2024 narrative-driven series suffered FROM its studio audience…

Was recently skimming Malcolm Turnbull’s Victims or Villains? about Jewish representations in e20c English mysteries and while there are some European last names for Jewish characters, the overarching signaler of Jewish characters is usually Cohen, Levy, or a patronymic-derived name.
hannahstohelit.bsky.social
It’s always interesting seeing this coming from British people because for a long time the stereotypical Jewish last names there were names like Moses, Hirsch, Solomon(s), Aaron(s)… basically patronymics adopted by immigrants who hadn’t had last names in Germany/E Europe!

Yeah, the first six chapters are basically Sayers and I was able to basically piece together the rest of what she wanted to happen from her notes, but the stuff that makes Sayers SAYERS wasn't really there. I've never read JPW's Thrones chapters but I assume she was reasonably faithful to the notes
