I love the bleak, senseless, inhumane, mundanely evil aspect of romero’s NOTLD and how o’bannon’s return was that but sillier. Both show how our undoing will come in an unexpected manner that we will be utterly unprepared for and how our complicit leaders will always be stupider than we assume.

A truly good self aware Canadian film would probably be like the opposite of argo, something that reveals how much dirty stuff gets done by people under cover of politeness while no one watches

countries like France, Russia, Japan just nailed realistic cinema early on, some countries have huge spectacle, sublime storytelling, sacred beauty.
What I look for in an American film is that rare unflinching thing of being able to look at America honestly, without bias, no exceptionalism filter.

only had one appointment today, hyper focused on it. Threaded that needle, and got some extra stuff done, but it was a struggle.
If I had a day long appointment far from home, I would’ve had to cancel it. Crohns robbed me of most of the day and much strength. In the past I would’ve made an excuse.
