As someone who watched a TON of Premier League football, I now often prefer watching the Championship for several reasons. It's similar to how I often enjoy watching the Europa League more than the Champions League.

Part of the reason is that I enjoy supporting the underdogs.

Quite a pleasant and welcome surprise to see a women's football magazine on the shelves of WH Smith in England. @shekicks.bsky.social

First time I've seen it.

FOOTBALL AS IT'S MEANT TO BE

I'm finding the EFL Championship more compelling and watchable than the Premier League and other top leagues.

No VAR is a huge reason.

What a game between Southampton and Wrexham. Perfect advertisement for the EFL Championship in a match that had everything. #SOUWRE

Watched more Scottish football last weekend than I have in a long time. This weekend, I'm looking forward to eating up the EFL matches.

Thank heavens for the return of European football ❤️

LaLiga flies under the radar a lot.

Arguably, the Spanish league is the 3rd most watched in the US after the Premier League and Liga MX. MLS has dropped from 3rd to 4th due to poor numbers on FOX.

My vote for the best commentator in MLS is Tony Husband.

Calming, informative and has a good conversational tone. #mls360 @mls.bsky.social

A preview of what's in store at World Cup 2026 next year
That’s now six games that have been held up due to bad weather at the Club World Cup. #FIFACWC

Does anyone know how many weather delays we had during the 1994 World Cup?

From what I remember, it was zero.

One of the topics underreported this summer is the impact of global warming on the U.S. & what can be done to work around the adverse weather conditions that have suspended too many games.

FIFA needs to hire consultants who will tell them like it is.

Overall, poor marketing. Most of the games aren't on TV, and all of the empty seats are a big turn off.

If FIFA reduces the number of teams to the best of the best, that would make it instantly more appealing. Too many weak teams.
If the rumors are true and this tournament comes back to the United Stated in 2029 then FIFA really will have to rethink a few things.

More games out West where it is cooler. Play in MLS and USL facilities rather than gigantic bowls that are unplayable in the summer.
Have Palmeiras and Botafogo on and once again lots of empty seats.

The upper decks at Lincoln Field are completely empty.

Feels like the Club World Cup starts for real today. Results are less predictable after the (mostly) bore fest of the Group Stage

I haven't looked at ticket sales for the knockout round but this is when games *should* sell out

BTW wknd games have 12 & 4pm kickoffs. Brutal conditions for players 😡

After watching the #FIFACWC for the first 4-5 days, my interest level has dropped off except for Friday night's Bayern-Boca.

Too many of the games of late have been too predictable and feature a complete mismatch of clubs.

I've skipped watching almost all of the games this weekend.

An incredible piece of prose from one of my favorite writers. It's a must-read for a glimpse into the present and future.
June 21, 2025 at 12:35 PM
For those of us in the US, it's unfortunately all too common.

Due to the current government not believing in global warming, FIFA needs to take responsibility by doing a better job at educating the fans at the games about taking safety precautions to avoid heatstroke, lightning, dehydration, etc
June 21, 2025 at 12:16 PM
A lot of #FIFACWC critics have focused on the stadiums being too big. While that's true to a degree, I'd argue that there are too many teams. Plus there needs to be a pre-qualifying round for the lower ranked teams

That combined with affordable ticket prices would go a long way to filling stadiums

There are parts of this Club World Cup that are the seeds of how amazing this competition could be in the future. Tonight's game is one of those magic nights.
Yeah, this is nuts
June 21, 2025 at 1:17 AM
Being conditioned to play in this heat and humidity is certainly a factor that favors the South Americans teams over Europe.
Brazilian clubs at the Club World Cup: Won 5, drawn 2, lost 0.

They have won 2, drawn 2, and lost 0 in games vs UEFA teams.

Did some traveling this week & had a chance to watch DAZN's broadcast of the #FIFACWC from the UK.

Completely different commentators, studio set & coverage than what we get in the US.

Some of the US commentary teams on DAZN are *way* over the top with their hype & exaggeration of crowd sizes.

After my initial optimism, the quality of football has dipped considerably in the past few days. The heat, stop-start of games due to excessive fouls, and sloppy play have resulted in poor quality overall. #fifacwc
Quality of football in #ClubWorldCup so far has been very good with a couple of exceptions

As the tournament goes along, the entertainment on the pitch may end up masking a lot of FIFA's mistakes off it

Meanwhile, the less said about DAZN, the better. Such inconsistent coverage, but hey, it's free

Club World Cup latest: fans have told of having to dispose of full water bottles before entering the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, of people in distress inside the ground and of lines that lasted 45 minutes to get access to water that was for sale.
